Fulham host Everton on Saturday with kickoff at 10am EST on Peacock.

Just getting the lineup from Fulham will be an exciting moment on Saturday because everyone is available except Lukic! There are so many questions:

  • Will Tete be able to get the start despite not getting any time last weekend?
  • Will Muniz come in as a sub? Remember, the last time we saw Muniz was when he came on as a sub against Everton, but then immediately went out again on injury. Hopefully he doesn't meet the same fate this time.
  • Will Cuenca or Bassey get the start next to Andersen? Both had moments of sub-par play against Manchester United, but they have both generally been solid players.
  • Will Robinson or Sessegnon get the start at LB? I don't think Robinson has looked good at all since his return and I would prefer Sessegnon. However, Elizabeth on the Fulhamish preview of this match, made a good case for keeping Sessegnon and Kevin as a substitute pairing in case additional firepower is needed in the second half since they seem to work well together. I could get behind that option too.
  • Will we get to see Bobb?

Despite Kevin's goal against Manchester United, I'd be surprised if Chukwueze doesn't get the start, but I suppose that is a possibility too.

The two teams are even on points and goal differential, so Fulham only sits above Everton based on goals scored. Everton will be without Jack Grealish, possibly for the rest of the season. They have done very well on the road earning 18 points, 2 more than they have earned at home - pandemic season form, despite a beautiful new stadium. Meanwhile Fulham has been very good at home, so this is an interesting pairing. Everton has also been stingy when it comes to giving up goals so Fulham will have their work cut out for them. I am hopeful though with an almost fully healthy squad and some exciting attacking potential. Fulham's away performance at Everton was one of the worst of the season, so let's hope we don't see a discouraging repeat on Saturday.

On form, Sess should be getting the start. Jedi is not 100%. Something is off. It was sad to see him lose footraces and miss tackles last weekend.

I'd like to see Kenny back. Cuenca or Bassey? Hard to say. Silva hates to change things that are working, but will he see Cuenca's mistake on the first goal last weekend as a reason to make a switch? We'll find out.

I wish Silva would give Josh King more time in matches. ESR has been playing well and deserves to be starting, but Josh offers a change of pace and that sublime turn in the midfield that breaks through the lines. He needs more than 5-10 minutes to make an impact. Does a reasonable lineup exist that gets ESR, Iwobi, Berge, and King on the field at the same time?

With Muniz back, we may not see Kusi-Asare in the matchday squad again this season, except for the FA Cup perhaps.

Like Micah, I hope the team comes out motivated to show that away Everton game was just an accident.

I'm keeping fingers crossed for no more injuries. We need our key players healthy if we're to have a chance at a late-season push.

A note about Kusi-Asare. He scored two goals in the U21 5-0 demolition of spam so will definitely not be in the team tomorrow. But I wonder why we kept him at all. Is he that much better than our own academy options?

So as Silva likes to do, he didn't make a lot of changes to starting XI, but he did make a significant change:

Leno
Castagne, Andersen, Cuenca, Sessegnon
Berge, Iwobi
Wilson, Smith-Rowe, Chukwueze
Raul

Subs: Robinson, Tete, Bassey, Lecomte, King, Reed, Bobb, Kevin, Muniz

So I'm surprised that the one change is Robinson rather than Castagne. I'm all for bringing in Sess, but I thought we'd see Tete start before Silva benched Robinson. Although Cairney doesn't make the squad, that is a really loaded bench by Fulham's standards! I hope we get to see Bobb, Muniz, and King in the second half. Come on Fulham!

That was a disgusting second half. In the end, it’s on the players, but it was one of the poorest-managed games in Silva’s career with us. What’s with Everton and us this season?

Yeah, disgusting indeed. I'm not sure how the same group of guys go out there and play some really exciting football in the first half and then just go belly up in the second half. I found Iwobi and Raul particularly offensive in the second half. When Fulham just needed to get possession and assert some control they seemed intent on giving the ball away as soon as possible. Fulham just allowed a relentless Everton attack for 30 minutes! At about the 60 minute mark I said "Nothing is going to change until Everton gets their eventual goal, so Fulham might as well let them score now to have more time to come back." Well things did change somewhat after the first goal, but not much better.

Was half time the point where Fulham inevitably starts their second-half-of-the-season-slide? It has happened every year in the Premier League under Silva and it seemed like the team stopped caring suddenly.

I wish I could remember what I felt good about in the first half. The second half was so terrible it blotted out that memory. I was excited to see Muniz, Bobb, and Kevin come on (although a little late) - but then I saw them play. Bobb was terrible. I know this is the first time he's played in a while, but what an atrocious start.

Usually I'm disappointed after a Fulham loss, but this one actually has me a little mad.

I've had some time to reflect and feel even worse about Marco's game management in this one. By minute 60, I was begging him to put King in for Iwobi because we just couldn't break the press and needed King's control, turn and ball carrying. I just don't understand how the one player we needed the most in the second half never made it off the bench.

There was one moment that burned itself into my eyeballs: on the corner right before Leno's own goal, Bobb was marking Tarkowski. The kid is about a foot shorter. It symbolizes how disorganized we were even though nether Bobb nor Tarkowski played a role in that goal. That's on Leno and Andersen.

If Leno continues to make poor choices, as he has been this season, I can see the door opening for Lecomte to start.

Some of Cuenca's decisions, especially when he would play the man instead of the ball, were puzzling, but he was still the better of the two center backs. Even so, I think he just handed the starting job over to Bassey.

Castagne and Andersen looked like traffic cones in the buildup to Everton's first. Premier League defending? https://www.nbcsports.com/watch/watch/premier-league/kiernan-dewsbury-hall-finds-evertons-equalizer-against-fulham

I hope we see Tete start from now on. Castagne is useful off the bench.

Just like Leno, Andersen has suffered a dip in form. I might have preferred Diop today or, preferably, three in the back until Andresen gets back to his best.

I though Iwobi played a good first half, but he was atrocious in the second. He just stopped. That left Berge with few options, and the inevitable back passes to the panicked defense ensued. In the second half, we looked like we were playing a man or two down.

Smith-Rowe was actually decent for the whole shift but was alone in that. Sess was good in the first half and didn't do anything wrong in the second (but nothing good either).

I might disagree about Raul. He got no service in the second half and had to come back to his own box to defend because we were completely overrun in midfield. He should have done better with a chance in the first half, but he should have been offered more chances by his teammates.

I'm of two minds on Silva. I really like him and think he's done a fantastic job at the club. He excels at player development. I'd like him to stay if both sides can come to an agreement. I happen to think he's a good game manager, too, which is why today felt particularly awful. But then I ask myself, would a more flexible manager be able to get a little more from this group of players? If he does leave, I hope we prioritize someone with flexibility who matches the tactics to the players.

Our next two Prem games are away: Man City and Sunderland. Today, I am not optimistic about getting a point from either. I'm afraid that Micah might be right about this feeling like the start of our usual late-season capitulation.

Dropping points from a winning position at home against an “equal” club like Everton is discouraging, especially since they were without Grealish the flopping baby.

Had to leave after only watching the first half, and even though we were leading 1-0 had a feeling of dread knowing it could’ve been easily 3-0.

This team has no killer instinct and its lack of ability to put teams away is beyond frustrating. As already mentioned here, it is mind boggling that the team can dominate and produce 1.82 xG in the first half and then treat the second half like a training session where nothing matters.

I like that the team occasionally tries to get attackers in behind the defense via the long ball or through balls. This is a good tactic that either works (Chukwueze's goal vs Brighton) or keeps the defense on alert at the least. But when that's all you're capable of because your midfield can't hold possession of the ball, it allows the opponent to cater their defense to ensuring that it doesn't work.

As I was watching an Everton player back into Leno on every corner, I 1) question the legality of intentionally obstructing the keeper and 2) wonder why Fulham never adjusted to have one of their players clear the Everton player out. That the practice ultimately led to a Leno own goal provides a blueprint for future opponents.

Getting back to the inability to put teams away, if you feel like Fulham's matches are almost always tight, you're right. This was Fulham's 14th straight Premier League match decided by one goal or less (7 wins, 2 draws, 5 losses). Every match, I wish that they would go out and bomb some team with 4 plus goals and cruise to a never-in-doubt victory. But alas...
