Fulham visit Sunderland on Sunday with kickoff at 9am on USA Network.
A couple months ago when Fulham was getting back to winning it felt like they couldn't move up the table despite racking up points. Now, after losing three league matches in a row, it feels like the opposite has happened - Fulham hasn't dropped that far down the table. Just like the recent match against Everton, this match has Fulham facing off against a team adjacent to them in the table. Sunderland had been unbeaten at home this season until their last match against Liverpool. The score was close, 0-1, but Liverpool controlled much of the game and got off 23 shots.
Fulham got a chance to try out a changed lineup against Stoke, but I think the starting XI will be the same as what we saw against Manchester City despite being soundly beaten there. Fulham has never lost four league matches in a row under Silva, so this would be an unfortunate milestone for what is probably his best Fulham squad if they didn't come away with a point. However, this is the time of year when Fulham's form seems to take a dive, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Silva says Chukwueze is dealing with a calf injury and will be unavailable along with either Lukic or Cairney - but Silva didn't clarify which one. Xhaka is still unavailable for Sunderland.
We'll be in the neon-green. I know they're controversial, and some consider them an eyesore, but I happen to love these loud shirts. I hope they are lucky this time.
TC seemed the one closer to coming back, so I assume he's the one who's ready rather than Lukic. It will be good to have him available to liven things up, provided he doesn't start. King didn't do himself many favors against Stoke, but I hope to see more of him on Sunday. Praying for Kenny Tete to be ready to start.
Is there a way to get King, ESR, Kevin, and Wilson all on the field at the same time and stay defensively sound? I think young Josh can play that deeper, two-way #8 role, but he made some mistakes in that position in the past, and Silva may be trying to protect him.
I know Sunderland have been exceeding expectations, but I’ll be greatly upset if Fulham doesn’t get at least a point here.
We need to get Harry going again.
I can’t figure out how to upload Mister Dancing Banana!
A relief to get 3 points again. I’m afraid we’ve lost Kevin for a while; could be a broken toe. Worried about Bassey; looked like a problem with a knee on the last play.
That was Raul’s 5th yellow, right? Does it mean he’s out vs Tottenham?
The second half was so much better than the first. I’m still maddened by Berge, and Iwobi was too quiet, but the latter delivered when it mattered. Hard to bet against Jimenez as MOTM, but I loved how having Kenny Tete back made my anxiety about our right side go away; he allows Harry to focus on going forward, too. Bassey was great, too, and I hope he’s not too badly hurt. I thought it was interesting how dangerous we looked going forward when we played 5 in the back toward the end of the game.
On to Tottenham at home. We have to beat them; with all the players they have missing, this is a great opportunity.
What a relief to get a win again, and a pretty solid win at that. That last interchange between Wilson and Iwobi was so perfect! What a pass and what a cool finish.
@Daddude7 you'll be happy to know that after week 19, a player needs 10 yellows to get a suspension, so Raul is okay since this was week 27. I feel bad for Kevin and I hope Chukwueze will be available if Kevin is out for a while. After the match Bassey seemed to be smiling, so I hope that is a good sign for him.
I may have to watch some of the extended highlights. I was double dipping between this match and the gold medal hockey game, but I was able to focus on the end of this one and...
Fulham finally put a team away at the end (as opposed to letting them back into the match)! I got worried when Sess lost track of the end line and let the Sunderland player spin past him, but to see that sweet counter attack with Harry carrying the ball 80 yards or so before playing the perfect ball through to Iwobi... Man, that felt good.
Kevin's injury is an esoteric one. Even the announcers were stumped trying to pinpoint precisely when it occurred. I will say that there was one moment when the physio was with him that you could see him squirm in pain, so I think it's unlikely to be a quick return. Silva can always slide Iwobi back outside and bring in King or Cairney in the middle - or maybe Bobb gets his first start.
Well this sucks... Games aired on USA Network, like Fulham's match against Sunderland, are no longer available later on Peacock. I know I've thought this before, and I turned out to be wrong, but it seems to really be happening this time. According to some Reddit threads, this is because USA Network is no longer owned by NBC so their PL matches are handled separately now. And guess where the Tottenham game is airing on Sunday. 🤬
