Fulham have finally appointed a new manager after being the only team without one for a few weeks. Alvaro Arbeloa will lead Fulham into the 2026/27 season on three year contract.
The best you can say about Arbeloa is that he has some pedigree, but he is entirely unproven as a manager. I feel better about his appointment than McKenna who had already failed with Ipswich in the Premier League, but I think it would be difficult to find too many Fulham supporters who would feel confident in Arbeloa's abilities.
One quote that is interesting in the official release is this:
Alvaro also has great interest in our academy set-up and believes in giving young players a chance. I loved hearing that from Alvaro, as well as his intent on playing attacking football.
This probably explains why Kusi-Asare was signed. It also is a departure from Silva who really liked experience and resisted bringing in academy players. Attacking football sounds nice, until getting hammered by Arsenal 5-1 (see Jokanovic, October 2018).
This could work or it could fail spectacularly. We just won't know for a few months. With such a high risk move I hope that Tony already has some managerial options in his back pocket.
