Oh, Anchor Steam is on the list as well. In fact I went to the brewery back when I lived in SF

If you love beer and you are ever in Atlanta, I highly recommend the Brick Store Pub: http://www.brickstorepub.com/home/ They have a fantastic selection including more imported Belgian beer than I've ever seen in the States. Grab a bowl of Brunswick stew and a few pints. Mmm...one of the life's great moments!

I lean towards a Pilsner. Stella or Pilsner Urquell, yes please.
    Butt-wiper, yuck!
I've tried skunk piss and I thought I was drinking a Corona. =P

The Brickstore is three miles from me! It's one of my faves, but damn near impossible to get into on a weekend...and it's not "technically" in Atlanta...it's in downtown Decatur :). I had to say it...since, BC, you are also from Decatur and all ;)!

Chimay is lovely. I am also partial to St. Bernardus...and I will never turn down a Lindeman's Framboise if the night calls for a girly lambic!...all available at The Brickstore (their fish and chips are the best in the city, by the way!).

Going to listen to some Sufjan Stevens (Illinoise)...

Terrihn73, a good friend of mine lives in ATL about the same distance as you from Decatur and the Brick Store Pub. Everytime I go to visit him, we go there. Last time we were there, it was a weekend and you are right, it's very crowded. We managed to get a table, though. Just had to wait and drink a few at the Belgian bar upstairs. I've never had their fish and chips but I will definately try them now on your suggestion. I typically get the brunswick stew since I can't get that in my Decatur :)

Sorry for the avatar. A bit of carcinoma made it's way onto my profile. I can never figure out how to change my damn avatar properly!

La Chouffe, for those that recommended it above, is great - so is the Val-Dieu Triple for Belgian fans.

Simpler Times Lager, brewed in Wisconsin, is inexpensive and fantastic. 6.2%.

Every now and then, I like PBR or to live the High Life. But I seem to find myself mostly in a cycle of Red Stripe, Corona, or *gasp* Miller Chelada (sp?).

If anyone started a brew-pub here, I think they'd step in it.

Somebody earlier said they love beer. Ahmen. This is too tough to do in one sitting.

As HD said earlier, can't beat a finely crafted real ale. There are a couple of great pubs close to me that rotate taps to small breweries from around the local counties and a bit farther afield and I will never remember the name of half of the freaking incredible ales I've had while here and will likely never have them again. The mainstays around my area are Courage and Brakspear brews and a local micro called Lovibonds run by a Wisconsinite by the way.

Guinness - On the whole, I drink more Guinness than anything else.
St. Arnolds real ale IPA - In Houston, this is sometimes on tap at the Gingerman, its incredible. Do not miss it if its there.
Bohemia or Negra Modelo - Mexican Standards
Fransiskanner Hefe - Great German Hefe on a summer day in Houston can't be beat
Shiner Bock - I am a Texan. Its in the blood.
Lone Star - Ice House drinking beer in the summer.

Shit, I could go on for a long time. Great thread. Hurry up summer, the beer gardens are waiting!

Hey.. think about your response, and to whom! someone drinks it. A Bears fan would suit.

For my dad's wake, with all the kids and adult grandkids coming in {though mainly from OH & SWUS}, the collection of beers in the walk-in cooler {garage} was eclectic, indeed. Everything from Rolling Rock {1/2 the 12 still there} to Guinness. heh.. NO COORS!
    Yeah.. incl Shiner Bock
Funny ...when you have an equal number of Coorona and Dos Equis, guess which get drunk first.

Me.. I was drinking Morgan* and coke

    * The NEW 'Bacardi', right Don?

Very good choices, other than Lone Star, but if you're at an icehouse I guess that's okay.

Funny that you mention St. Arnolds and the Gingerman. The founder of St. Arnolds is a friend of mine from Rice. In college he had Guiness on tap in his dorm room (drinking age was 19 and you could drink and drive back then). Also, I was the very first barmaid ever at the Gingerman! Bob Precious was the owner back then, but I believe he has sold it. I think he may have moved to NY and opened a Gingerman there, I dont think his Irish wife was happy with life in Texas.

Haven't had a rum 'n coke since the early 1970s, 'fog. If I'm having something other than beer or wine, it is [very rarely] a single malt scotch over ice [a bottle generally lasts me 18 months or so] or [quite regularly] Bombay Sapphire/Tanquray/Citadelle gin + either tonic or, if I'm not driving or if it's just before a large dinner [a VERY dry Martini]. How dry? Since I bought my .375 litre bottle of Martini, I've gone through more than 40 1.75 litre bottles of gin.

In the wine department, the hot summer weather goes best with Pinot Grigio. It's pretty much the only white I bother with. In the red department, I like pinot noir, Malbec, the occasional cab, but ... when I can afford it [not often these days] you can't really beat a good quality California Zin.

Uh-oh, sounds like Don is ready for the "Wine & Cheese" thread.

Go for it (in a new topic though please). We are Fulham after all.

    Bud can.

Something about that metallic hint that really opens up the hops to the nose and gives it a good body...whooops.

    Seriously, Bud can.
