AND didn't hear a word about the officiating of the Colombia-Greece match....which means Mark Geiger and Sean Hurd had a good match, apparently.

Outstanding performance by Costa Rica. That was fun to watch.

:text-+1: I think I will regret not picking them to make it out of the group stage. I was wanting to but just couldn't pull the trigger. Figured Uruguay would have such a big "home" crowd advantage throughout the tournament that they wouldn't lose until the at least the quarters. Guess that's why I don't do this for a living.

Feel bad for Roy, I really wish he didn't take over England. I'd rather go on not caring for the Three Lions.

Only saw the last 30 min of England v Italy but they were pathetic. I've got a soft spot for Roy and Ray but jeez how uninspired can you be.

They actually played quite good in the first half, and created a bunch of chances, but looked utterly exhausted in those last 30.

Pretty good stuff so far from my vantage point. Except for the non-penalty given to Fred by the Japanese ref in the opener and the legit El Tri goals wrongfully disallowed in the second match, this has been pretty entertaining. Decent attacking play by most of the teams, lots of goals and only one red (so far). Really liked Van Persie's header and Honda's laser on the goal scoring style sheet. And three stirring come from behind results, including the Dutch spanking of the defending champs. And no ties (yet, may have just jinxed us). Good stuff all around. The biggest disappointment? England. Again. Can't wait for USMNT!

I thought this was the most dynamic English side I have ever seen until Italy parked the bus for the final 30 to 35 minutes. Raheem Sterling was amoung the best individual players I have seen in the tournament so far.

The wifi at the hotel sucks so haven't been able to check in, but Brazil has been a blast so far. I don't know how I am not hungover right now after skipping dinner and drinking 10+ beers at the US Soccer night before party last night.

But we are taking this game today.

Best individual performance so far: Pirlo against England

Best team performance so far: Costa Rica against Uruguay

I'm quite enjoying the matches I've seen, and I'm looking forward to rooting for Iran -- something that seems kind of strange to me, but … .

I know that we have business to take care of this afternoon, but Pepe and injuries have done us a huge favor ahead of our match with Portugal.

I'm still not sure if Germany looked that good or Portugal looked that bad.

Watching the 2nd half of the Germany-Portugal match moved me from thinking "3 and out" to "if we beat Ghana, we have a chance of moving on with Germany."

    Hope, you're a cruel bitch.

Mi esposa teaches summer school in La Puente every year, which is 95% latino. The change taking place in that community is noticeable. 8 years ago those 7 - 8th graders who were raised to be El Tri fans weren't even aware the US had a team. Yesterday, she wore her Dempsey jersey and that same age group knew who Clint was and would be cheering on the US.

And another come from behind contest at the WC. So far, only snoozer has been Iran-Nigeria. Don't know how many penalties are the norm, but it seems there have been quite a few so far. Haven't seen them all, but haven't heard too much noise about 'em since the one called in the opener. I'm willing to bet we don't see Mr. Yuichi-san in charge of any more tilts at this tournament.
Oh, sh*t, they'll probably put him in charge of ours Sunday.
