Brazil survive but were really not the better team in the first 90 in my opinion. Chile played some brilliant soccer before exiting to the host nation.

For almost 50 years now, I have admired Brazil and rooted for them in every match in which they weren't playing either England or USA. That ended to day. The disgraceful conduct of their supporters during the Chilean national anthem has put me right off them. I'm so sad that Chile didn't put them out of the tourney.

What happened during the national anthems? I missed that part.

And the thug that is Rafa Marquez gets his just reward. Irony can be pretty ironic, sometimes.

I thought they took their foot off the gas and tried to defend the lead to early and the Dutch made them pay.

It was a bit funny seeing Ruiz and Mitroglou do their PK's back-to-back (I wonder if we'll actually ever see them on the team together). I was kinda hoping that Mitroglou would have a good WC so we could sell as high as possible, but that didn't happen. When he stepped up my son asked what I thought he would do - "Bounce the ball off the post. Perfect ending for his World Cup." At least he got it in the net. Glad that Costa Rica is going on. The deserve it more than Greece.

After watching Ruiz and Karagounis wearing the captain's armbands yesterday, there was Halliche doing the same for Algeria today. Just points out that Fulham has talent on the roster but didn't have the coaching to make the proper use of it.

Very odd first half from Holland where they decided to go 'West Ham" and not even attempt to do anything but try long balls from the midfield line. It seemed they were content to not exert themselves in the heat. Barry, my buddy who is an EL Tri fan hosted a viewing party for 20, they all were bummed Dos Santos was subbed for a defensive mid. It's nearly impossible to sit back for 30 minutes. Just a shame that match ended with Robben flopping like a fish.

Going with France to expose Germany's all-CB back 4, and pull off the 'mild' upset.

Watching James Rodriguez and the rest of Colombia thrash Uruguay made me happy.

Chalk rising to the top, can either the Swiss or the US join the Ticos as the party crashers?

Messi's run and assist on the winning Argentine goal was sublime - some players (cough, cough, Robben) would fall over on the Swiss defender's challenge. No, he kicks the ball away from the defender and jumps over the tackle. Then tees up DiMaria and there you go. I hope, sincerely hope, the US get to play Argentina. The pictures of the Swiss just dropping to the ground, or in the net, were gut-wrenching because you know they just gave everything. Ahh, the World Cup...

The displays by Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, and the USA today have made this my favorite of all the World Cups I've watched. [I started in 1966, and watched at least two or three matches in every finals since.]

Don I don't go back nearly as far as you but this has easily been the most entertaining World Cup I have watched. The teams you named have provided a very large portion of that entertainment.
