Who is the most overrated band? I seem to remember a thread like this running a long time ago, but here's another one.

A good way to qualify for this is to charge well into triple digits to see a band whose members take Metamucil, Just for Men, and Viagra -- I'm looking at you, Fleetwood Mac :x .

I voted for the Dead. Just remembering how the Deadheads would smoke up and go on and on and on about how awesome the Dead were and the live shows, etc. etc. etc. I mean, enough! They had some nice guitar playing and chord interactions, but any reasonably competent band anywhere can do the same thing.Maybe it was the lack of illegal pharmaceuticals in my bloodstream, but the only good song they did, in my view, was "Friend of the Devil" and Lyle Lovett recorded a better version of it.

I just read your list out to HatterMom and she said: "We don't make enough money to be overrated!" For that matter, only one poster on this site has actually come to hear us, although we're hoping one or two more may make it down.

I'm voting "other" because to me the most overrated band of MY time was either Survivor or Foreigner. Each essentially released the same song over and over just by moving around some of the words and one or two of the chord progressions. I'm also voting "other" to see how many of my "friends" pick us.

    You're dangerous after a nil-nil draw, Steve. :D

Don, I just wanted to give you a shout and hope it brought a smile to your face -- please don't kill me!

I put the DMB in because they seem like this generation's Deadheads -- fans of a decent, not great, band with an overindulged fan base.

Had to go with the Dead like the rest of you, but Steve I'm not sure the Rolling Stones belongs on the list. While I understand their inclusion in terms of metamucil and viagara, they're among the best bands ever.

Gotta go with the Dead based on the 'named' list. Which actually has to be interpreted as rep against music following on playlists. I mean I dont recall hearing a Dead piece and thinking 'gotta have that'.. actually you almost never heard them played, anyway.
    - UNLESS you mean a band you've heard mentioned a lot but cant recall ever hearing them played or what they sound like, then it must be DMB for me. Of course I would have heard them, but .. well, you know.

I never wanted to collect anything from the Eagles, either. Hotel California got old real fast.
    Or from Pink Floyd {aka Nietsche on Wax}
Which brings us to subjective v objective analysis.. or simply put 'Most Annoying'. That, Ladies and Gents, is the Fleetwood Mac category.

Which THEN brings up.. 'Most Overplayed - All Time' which would go to LedZep {who I liked} slightly edging PinkFloyd {who I hate}.

Unless you're talking about Talentless One Hit Wonders accorded legend status by People with Tin Ears.. then it HAS to be "Bill Haley and the Comets". I'm sorry you missed them if you dont know who I'm talking about... it would level the baseline.

Yeah but....almost ALL Zeppelin songs are overplayed. Which in a way, signifies their spot at the top.

Being the one person to see the Tim & Bob Show play (er...the one person from this site) I have to agree that they are definitely overaged.

What do you mean that wasn't the question?

I put the Stones on here for the factors that you stated, Mo -- they obviously are one of the standards for a rock n roll band. I guess if you stick around that long you are going to have a few that sy Enough already, quit shaking the money tree, but the Stones are in here mainly as a talking point.

Same w/ The Eagles. My Dad was in a conversation where someone claimed them as the most overrated band, and I totally disagreed with that conclusion -- every country music band of the last 15 years is rooted in the sound that the Eagles pioneered.

What about Guns n Roses -- I told Don that I wanted his band to be in good company, that's why GNR didn't make the cut

My vote went for the eagles, though i wanted to split it between Eagles, U2 and Dead.

Gun N Roses? Really? Even Chinese Democracy with one member and a ton of fill-ins is a pretty damn good album. that's right, i'm with Fog on this one.

All of those in the poll are excellent choices, but the real winner is always going to be Radiotoolhead.

Honorable mention to Nine Inch Nails.
