No, not the matches ... the players. Who is gonna be the guy at the end of the bench?

Very quietly, Maurice Edu worked himself into the regular starting lineup at Rangers. He's played very aggressively in midfield and has bagged himself a goal or two. I think he should be Bradley's partner in central mid, but he just might be that #23 guy.

Stuart Holden recovered in time from his Dutch mugging to play the last 24 minutes for Bolton. Coyle evidently thinks the world of him, and I like him as the guy on the wing if Dempsey is moved up front late in the match. #23?

Ricardo Clark got some meaningful minutes in at Monorail Franktown, and I think they like him there. Another #23?

At the risk of upsetting Boston Cottage and Cleveland Mo, I'm thinking that if Charlie Davies appears in South Africa, he'll either be as a color announcer for ESPN or as #23.

Buddle. And Donovan's going to be quietly bending Bob's ear on him.

The last game, Buddle showed he's more than just a position finisher.

Take this from a guy who has de-rated Buddle since he left the Crew.. either he's changed a lot in his attitude and vision or I didnt know WTF I was talking about.. Don will say the latter, I say the former.

Read the back-press. I'm probably right.

Well, Bradley and Bornstein's vows did state "for better or for worse...", so I gotta go with J. Bornstein as #23.

Agree about Edu, especially since Jermaine Jones wont be healthy. Also, agree about Calvin.

I've already acccepted the fact that Charlie wont be on the squad, but I still feel sick when I think about it for too long. For forward I'd go with Altidore, Ching, Buddle, Casey. Wouldnt be fine if he chose EJ over Buddle.

    A question...
On the US Soccer Federations site where the official list is posted, Jozy Altidore's club is listed as Villa Real, but Eddie Johnson's is listed as Aris. Why the different treatment for loaners? I just want to see Fulham get its props for having two players make the US camp roster.

I dunno.. maybe Fulham didnt want him listed that way, or Bradley wanted to make a point to Adu.

Whatever.. if it comes down to choice between Buddle and EJ, it's Buddle, ya damn betcha. And not because I want it that way, but because LandyCakes wants it.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting we have Bedoya, Rogers and Beas competing for left Mid.

Bedoya has 2 caps and training time, starts for an obscure Swedish team. Rogers been playing like crap until the last few games, where he came on pretty hot.. but I bet too late. And Beasley will still suffer from feather-itis.

If I was Club before Country I'd defo say send RR home. But I'm neutral on that. Thing is I just dont think Beas would necessarily be picked if he'd been on RBNY for the last month.

The club is probably better off reputation-wise not getting the credit for EJ.

Shame about Davies, but not surprised.

Guess I've been under a rock...who are Bedoya and Gomez?

Bedoya plays a winger-type role for Örebro SK in Sweden. He went to Boston College with Charlie Davies and has played well in Sweden last year and so far this year. He came on as a sub for the US in the friendly against Netherlands in March.

Herculez Gomez is a striker that currently played last season for Puebla in Mexico. He was the team MVP for the LA Galaxy in 2005 and also had somewhat unsuccessful stints with the Rapids and Wizards before heading to Mexico this past January. He then went on a scoring tear, tying for the Golden Boot in Mexico this past season (the first American to win any Golden Boot in a top-flight league outside the US). The most impressive part was scoring those 10 goals in 15 games, but he came off the bench in nine of those games.

I am a fan of Bedoya and think he could be a good "super-sub" type role for the US. If he doesn't make the World Cup, he is still real young (23 years old) and should be part of the next cycle.

Gomez is just someone who became unbelievably hot in the last couple months and has played his way into camp, especially with there being a question mark at forward after Jozy (and Dempsey). He even thought his chances of making the team were less than 1% back in January.
