I went to the official N Korean news web site to try to find info on thir team, which I have to say, I thought whatever their inadequacies were, they did not quit, which is more than can be said for the French team or the Honduran team.

As of this writing, I see nothing on their Portugal game that happened 2 days ago.

Italy have been shockingly poor. How did Rossi not make that squad?

What a crazy ending between Slovakia-Italy. If they had done it against anyone else, I'd call Slovakia's "gamesmanship" disgraceful. Against Italy though, it's poetic.

The defending champs AND runners-up bomb out in the group stage. :shock:

Paraguay goes thru, glad to see the Copa Sudamericana organizers were nice enough to invite the rest of the world to their party, that's 4 for 4 w/only Brazil left to advance.

 

Czech Republic and Slovakia are not exactly the most neighborly of neighbors. Still, at least a war between them did not immediately precipitate the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, and I found myself at times rooting for the team with similar sounding last names to myself.

Italia and France both finish LAST in their groups. What a difference 4 years makes.

 

1. A little confused why El Tri play on Sun. and the US have to play on Sat.

2. Don't miss the replay on espn classic tonight HD, the final 30-35 minutes was absolutely amazing.

3. I rooted for Slovakia, but when you grow up being "Czech" you tend to relate to the CR more than Slovakia.

That last goal by Japan was Brazilish. Honda thinks he is Fabiano.

And I would like to qualify the statement that its South America's tourney. Lets call it the 'America's' tourney thus far. As it stands today, US, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Paraguay are top of their groups with Mexico thru (and Honduras the biggest bomb).

Quiroz has been rumored before to eventually be the US coach...Please No. Hard to imagine a Brazil-Portugal match would be horrible to watch. Ronaldo? How is he the captain? Example; Portugal on the counter a player (maybe Meireles?) passes to Ronaldo and made a great run and instead of feeding the teammate who has put in a 50 yard run the ASS tries a hopless shot from 40 yards out. The entire team should take him back in the locker room and mess up that pretty face. I honestly believe he would choose scoring in a WC Final and lose rather than playing poorly and Portugal winning.

Simple analysis of the England-Germany match is that Germany was the better team. No idea what might have happened if the sencond England goal would have been allowed but I thought the better TEAM won in the end.

 

That was like watching a very good team against a collection of all-stars. Germany were cohesive, disciplined and dangerous. England looked like 11 individuals throwing shit at the wall hoping something would stick. They were unlucky to have Lampard's goal disallowed, but I don't really think it would have mattered. As an American, in this tournament, I have a hard time sympathizing on that front.

England remind me of Notre Dame. They are so ridiculously overrated that despite going into the match pulling for them, I found myself rooting against them early on. In part due to that, and in part b/c they look miserable playing and I see little heart in their performances.
