on the bright side, Harkes has found a replacement for Clint Dempsey: Ghana.

Martin, I've been nice. I haven't made fun of any Chelsea player's name.

Fingers crossed Pants is okay (possible facial fracture of some sort), it did not look good and his teammates were distraught.

I missed the second half, had to do some shopping, I hope Pants is OK.

Anyone else notice as the players were lining up inside the runway today the Ghana player next to Schwarzer tapped him to get his attention and then pointed back? Next thing they showed was Mark and Pants giving each other a big hug and big smiles all around.

Hmmm, wonder why some of the African teams look so tired?

In the Ghana - Australia game, about a minute after the AUssies score, Schwarzer got laid out by someone coming in for a cross. Who did the dirty work? John Pantsil!

Ryan Nelsen will fly to Minnesota to be with wife if she goes into labor early.. !!!!

Ummm... sorry. that is NOT in the tradition of great campaigns. He's the captain {Field General} of the NZ side, as well as being the highest profile and a KEY PLAYER.

    Let's get our priorities straight.

    Magic Simon Elliot starting again.

snark on BS last match: Elliot has started every match for 'Unattached FC'
    ------------------------------------------
Now 1-1 from pk off an atrocious bit of acting

    youtube: Italy training camp

All that's missing is the White Flags...

Beautiful dead ball delivery from Simon Elliot. You know, when your game never depended on pace, you don't miss it when you lose it.

And, SCJ, I have to agree with your sentiment. These guys can play such beautiful football, but they're a mixture of thugs and platform divers. If I were Zambrotta, I'd demand a separate shower. On the other hand, it is nice seeing all those Juve players we bitch slapped at the Cottage this year.

Speaking of disfuctional idiots, the France team continues to fall apart. News from the Italy/NZ match has

    1. The France team revolting and refusing to train today.
    2. The nead of the French delegation resigning from the France FA out of disgust over the childish behavior of the French team.
    3. Evidently only ONE players of the 23 was actually ever talking to the press.

Ireland would have been SO much better.

A STANDING OVATION for the KIWIS....THAT is what the World Cup is all about. For the cynics that only want to see the big boys take note. All heart and guts. The goalie came up big, Ryan Nelsen was brilliant in the back (a yellow card for getting a cramp..WTF?). The West Brom youngster Wood damn near won it late, Incredible.

and just when I was feeling so good, the last 15 minutes of the Brazil v. Ivory Coast happened.

    Sigh.

And that's what happens when players know the gig is up. If there were more than 3 subs allowed in football, we would have seen the JV squads in for the garbage time and none of that would've happened.

Brazil knew they were through and the Ivory Coast knew that game was over but they can still possibly advance.

Disgusting to see, but not surprised by it.

what a smarmy fekker Kaka is. He and Rubihno were winding them up, and Dunga needs a touchline ban after today's performance. I wait all week to see Brazil play and then this happens. Ise regusted.

That is my sentiment exactly Don. Just to be fair the Brazilians were not the only smarmy fekkers on the pitch at the end of the match. Keita or Kaita or whatever his name is from Ivory Coast deserves a post match red for simulation. Kaka's forearm was nowhere near the broken nose he was pretending he received.
