Not wholly convinced but defo in the 'Could Do' realm of possibilites.

 

Yay for the Kiwis!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much deserved tie as the ref totally missed the offside call on Slovakia's goal.

Fulham alum Simon Elliot had a very nice game also.

Props to the Kiwis for tying it, but dude has got to remember to keep the shirt on (dumb yellow). Slovakia just screwed their chances of getting out of the Italy, Paraguay group.

It's halftime of the Portugal/Ivory Coast game. My wife's favorite player (Ronaldo) possesses the best/worst elements of the sport. His turn and shot of the post was amazing, his DIVING is beyond a joke and a total embarrassment, makes you want to slap that smug smile off the pretty boys' face.

 

North Korea Look Good

They play well and are finely tuned. They could nick a goal against Brazil it looks like. Not technically gifted, but skillful enough and Stalinist in defense.

No, they looked good. Didn't put a foot wrong the first half and got a good goal at the end of the second.

Very TECHNICALLY proficient team, as you might expect. The flashy goal exposed that.

They could give the others in group real trouble. Brazil needed to cut open some serious Samba on 'em. Did you catch that in the narrative?

Here's what I think, that will be N. Korea's best match of the Tournament.

They let their Pyongyang hang out in this one, knowing they needed to look prepared. I predict some Kim Jong Illness for the rest of their matches in South Africa.

 

My favorite rumor so far is that the North Korean fans were really Chinese "actors" that were paid. Mike Tirico w/a great line in reference to the NK goal; 'On the North Korean Sportscenter tonight that will be the only highlight shown'. Give them credit, they weren't out of their depth.

Portugal and Ivory Coast looked for the last hour+ like 2 teams that knew Brazil was in their group and could ill afford not to come away w/a point.

Halftime of the Chile-Honduras game (the 4:30 game is tough for the left-coasters). We all know Brazil and Argentina, but Chile looked very formidable. I had no idea Costly got hurt for Honduras in the build-up to the tournament, and it has proven to be...costly (apologies, no coffee yet).

 

This may be viewed as an excuse, but I'm wondering if the hubbub over the ball is warranted.

I've stopped counting how many shots have not only sailed way over the bar, but have never even approached the net.

Scoring is way down so far for a lot of reasons -- negative tactics, it being winter, etc. But I think the ball has to be another one.
