That was September 2007, FWIW. The last competitive match (i.e. not a friendly) the USMNT lost on US soil was also to Brazil, in the 2003 Gold Cup.

Disappointed to hear about the weather forecast - I'd hoped for it to be really frigid. (Easy for me to say since I'll be watching on TV.)

Hejduk just makes more sense than Wynne. Both he and his fellow golden-boy Bornstein need to learn that the primary role of a fullback is to defend. Also, if here's anybody that pisses off Mexican players as much as Donovan does, it's Frankie. Finally ... the one guy you can always guarantee will NEVER mail it in, it's the Columbus Surfer Dude. He's old, he's always been limited in his skills, but if 'dolo isn't there against El Tri, he's the guy I want.

The 'USS Promo: Back to Columbus'
Note it starts with McBride bloodied from 01 match ends with 'Back to Columbus' snow and icicles

I probably wont be able to make this one {was out of town in 01}. But what people forget the weather was great last time.. key is in audience management.

Are we assuming Cobi can't be coaxed out of retirement for a game or two against El Tri? Because DAMN did they hate him.

Thanks, Josh. It made me chuckle to remember every time Cobi stuck it up their collective asses.

And Sven thought England was a tough gig :D The Mexican federation and press are ridiculous and are never satisfied (nobody ever lasts). My buddies who are El Tri fans are whining and crying about Sven, injuries, and red card suspensions. They were piss poor up in Oakland for the friendly v Sweden. I thought I'd never say this before a match against Mexico, but I hope the guys aren't overconfident. 2-0 to the US as long as they bring their usual intensity.

Hmmm, Rogers gets the nod over Adu. Interesting.

I think Rogers and Davies will be the last two removed from the roster.

What I'd like to see (but dont expect)

    -----------------------Howard-------------------------

    --Wynne-----Onyewu------Boca-------Pearce-------

    --Dempsey-------Kleijstan----Bradley-----Torres---

    -------------Donovan-----------------Altidore----------

I'd love to see Beasley at LB, I just don't think it's ever going to happen.

I don't know enough about Torres yet, so I'd give DMB a run at left mid, but I could just as easily be swayed. Beyond that, two thumbs up BC. WhitesBhoy likey!!

What the starting XI actually will be:

    --------------- Howard ------------------

Hejduk - Gooch - Cpt. Carlos - Pearce

    Dempsey - Bradley - Kleijsten - Beasley

    ----- Donovan ------ Ching ------------

Bench: Altidore (75'), Torres (80'), Bornstein, Guzan, Califf, Clark

times are when I predict the players will go in. If the pace of the Mexican right winger is giving Pearce trouble, I could see Bornstein coming in. Guzan and Califf are injury coverage. Clark might come in late if we want to sit on a lead.

I noticed that Andres Guardado wasn't called in; he got hurt about a month ago and isn't back for Deportivo yet. That's a good break for us; recall that he scored against us in the Final of the 2007 Gold Cup.

I'll take Anypalmer's line-up. We need Ching in there to fight the hard fight until we qualify. Once that's done then give Josy the starts in confed cup (?) and friendlies leading up to the world cup.

Why do you suppose Adu didnt get the call? Lack of playing time?

As far as attending the game things keep turning for the worse. I cant believe the weather forecast. High of 58 and thunderstorms in Ohio and in February? The very next day the forecast if for possible snow, what are the chances. On top of that one of my sons came down with the stomach flu today. Hope it doesnt spread to the rest of us or we may not make it.

I think you've gotta stick with Ching's experience against Mexico, but I wouldn't mind seeing Jozy get some starts at home against some of the other countries in the Hex. He's gotta start getting experience in games that really count at some point.

I guess I'm gonna have to be the cynical goat, here.

Sooner or later US is going to win at Azteca, and SoL Mexico is going to get a result at Columbus. I think this is the time.

1-1... at least one of the scores, possibly both, on PK.

If Mexico DOESNT at least get a goal, however, SGE is done.
