just an article to keep interest up...and his olympic comments probably mirror what a lot of us on here felt ('mo, whitesbhoy, etc.). plus he references van halen, and while i don't agree with his assessment that hagar was a d.l.r. equivalent, i dig the reference.

excited for tomorrow after the big letdown at hull city.

As a wise man once said...and I quote:

" USA  USA  USA  USA  "

...so that being said...2-0 to the USA.

i enjoy a few van hagar tunes...but more importantly, the belle has returned. nice.

u.s. wins 2-0 (due to jmh's juju), and it'll be ugly.

Good article, thanks for the link. I am psyched for tonight's match.

I liked his reference to Josy as a $10 million man-child.

The bit about Bradley having shackles on with the national team is interesting too. However, not having seen any of his games with Herenveen, only goal highlights, its impossible to know if I agree. It does seem like Bradley is less "all over the place" than he was in his first several appearences with the national team.

I thought the comment on Bradley's style not meshing with players like Adu was interesting. Any thoughts that Bradley might not be the right guy to groom the young players who comprise the future of our team? On a national team the coach should fit the players not the other way around, right?

that comment bothered me as well. I didn't think that Adu's individuality cost the team in any of the matches I've seen him in recently. Instead, I thought he gave us a little less predictability and made us a bit more dangerous in attack.

This is the lineup I would like to see tonight:

    --------------Howard--------------

    Dolo---Gooch----Boca----Pearce

    Kljestan-----Bradley--------DMB

    -------------Dempsey------------

    ------Donovan-----Ching--------

The lineup I expect to see is:

    --------------Howard--------------

    Dolo---Gooch----Boca----Pearce

    LD----Edu----Bradley--------DMB

    ------Dempsey------Ching-------

Just as a not so interesting aside I went and watched Maurice's little brother Reggie play last night in an exhibition game between our local univeristies. I like Maurice's hair cut better than Reggie's dreads.

Comments on a many things written here:

Adu makes the attack more creative because he can draw multiple defenders with his skills. If we can get him to lay the ball off quicker to a cutting teammate, then it will really be dangerous.

The thing about Michael Bradley is that his goals for Heerneveen appear to mostly put backs when the ball is bouncing around in the box. He seems to be further up in the attack or something, so I am not sure why he isn't tallying more goals that way for the USMNT.

I am bummed not to see Benny on the roster. The US midfield needs his creativity and distribution. Hopefully, the AGF Aarhus experience will get him back in the starting VI.

With regards to Cooper not being selected due to MLS commitments, I do not really buy that one. Arena is going to evaluate LD based on the flight back, and the Galaxy plays on Thursday. I think there is something else going on with Cooper.

I too was bothered by the comment that Bradley may not be fostering the young talent that is going to be the focus of this team in 2010. Regardless of what the truth is, it makes you think.

One unrelated comment: I am happy to see Edu go to Europe and have an opportunity to play in the Champion's League, but on the other hand, it is sad to see the better players leave an "ideally improving" MLS league.

Did you stay up to late last night Don? I mean why would we want any type of flair or unique play in our national team. How are teams supposed to stop us if we don't telegraph every move we make? Our team should read like the well-worn novel your bookcase shouldn't it?

I dont like to criticize Bradley because 1) I dont really know what I am talking about 2) I think he is competent and has done a good job 3) I'm afraid it is too late to change now

However, I definitely think we could find someone better

BTW BC, how is Twaylor Twellmen doing these days. He's not getting calls anymore.

I am hoping that Guatemala doesn't resort to putting all 11 players in their half of the field yet again. When a side approaches a match with the mentallity of overloading their half of the field to defend with no intentions of going forward the match is doomed to monotony.

Out of everything that has been predicted in this thread, "it'll be ugly" is the most likely to be true.

    Greg Lalas asks:
    I say:
AC/DC (he didn't say they had to have changed frontmen willingly)

Geez, Mo! Haven't I taught you anything? If I only commented on things I know something about, I'd have about 43 posts by now, and Pettyfog would only post about technology. :3d laughing:

One thing about Adu - if he plays as a CAM, you must have a diamond midfield formation with a CDM behind him whereas a combination of Bradley/Edu/Mastro/Benny/Clark/etc. can be played more as a flat Center Midfield with, arguably, two end-to-end players. Admitedly, due to where the USMNT is right now,our two "end-to-ends" end up being more CDMs, but it at least has the potential for evolving to two straight center mids. I like Adu a lot, but at this point, as I see him as a super sub against most competition due to his size/defensive liabilities (or as a starting withdrawn striker, but we're discussing midfield so....).
