Tell me if this sounds familiar...The US plays 3 games in a tourney format and:
Plays one good to great match, Plays one poor one, and plays one average .
If it does, it's because it's how the US has played in EVERY single group play of the WC they have qualified for dating back to 1990.

Can't defend the US performance because frankly it was dire. Canada did have their legs and we looked like we were running in mud. Very concerned about hearing that the US has been having two a days in training and hadn't had a day off. The team needs to get down to Florida and keep it light in training and hit the film room hard.

I had completely forgotten we had a match with them. Apparently the team did as well.

Three bright spots - I am struggling to find three to be honest but here goes

    1. The match is over and I don't have to watch it any longer. This one I will delete from my dvr.

    2. Goodsen had another good match. It is time to sit Gooch and Cameron down and let Goodsen have an extended run in the side.

    3. Bradley was very active. I hated that he played so many long balls over the top but he was at least winning the ball back.

Three who did not impress - Unfortunately this is much easier

    1. Castillo - I don't know what everyone saw to call him alright but I thought his defending was dire and his attacking ability was just above pedestrian. He was beaten for pace consistently and his panic play was responsible for Canada's goal that should have counted. High, wide and long when under extreme pressure right? If this is the second best left back we have then I hope Fabian Johnson is a rapid healer.

2.Donovan - He played a few nice one-two's but the times he gave up the ball or just couldn't beat his man far outnumbered the good play in my opinion.

3a. Torres - He never really made his mark in the match. I am not sure if it was just Torres or if Bradley's long balls over the midfield contributed to his lack of influence on the match. Either way Tater had a bland match.

3b. Jones - He flattered to deceive. Made some surging runs out of midfield but consistently lost the ball and was never really a threat.

All in all I thought Canada outplayed the US. Their passing seemed more precise and they created the better chances on the evening. I also thought Klinsmann's adjustments came too late in the match especially since this was a friendly with subs to spare. Weary legs might have had something to do with it but we set our own schedule so that just seems like whinging to me.

Sometimes it was 3 a days. Tell me what the point of that is? And what other team on earth does that?

That game was pretty much shit. I carved out a couple hour kitchen pass to watch that crap...wish I would have stayed home and did something more exiting, like pulling some weeds from the garden.

My brother sent me a one word text message after the match..."horrible". My response "unbelievably horrible". And that was the extent of our discussion of the game. To bad we wasted those few electrons.

Time for a ctrl-alt-del come Friday both for the team and my USMNT attitude.
