Well, at least "garbled" and "somewhat ridiculous" hits the mark. The guy at Y-A had more than 8 days to file the story and still came up with "like a scolded dog." SCOLDED, Gracie? And why exactly is it that injuries to Edu and Hejduk should result in punishment for Bradley?

The other was written by Jamie Trekker. "nuff said. But, obviously, if the United States doesn't get out of the group stage, we'll be a terrible failure. Really? We have to finish ABOVE Brazil or Italy or Bradley should be fired? Trekker must have some very good contacts. I haven't experienced drugs that powerful in a long time.

After reading both articles I somewhat agree with the points raised but I think they miss the mark.

Although I am not speaking for all fans, I can only ascertain that fans are not mad at Bradley the coach (except DMB at LB) but what he represents and his context.

No matter how you cut it, he's just some cheap American option the USSF has relied on with the logic "if it ain't broke don't fix it" as we cruise through CONCACAF -- rightly described as a 'ghetto' in the Y-A story.

And who knows. Maybe this (mickey mouse) tourney will show that he has some tactical prowess, and USSF was right. Or maybe we'll get spanked and go home embarrassed and Bradley will lose his job.

Either way I'm going to watch (it at work) and root on my country. Except I'll be drinking regular (really, Donny, diet?!?) Dr. Pepper and maybe some good ol' fashioned Hires root-beer.

Sounds like Boca will be a game time decision with his hamstring.

Started reading the Y-A links and noticed the name (not Trek) of the author. If I'm not mistaken he is member here and from the LA area. I sent him an e-mail to see if it is him.

After watching our last two games I expect to play 3 games, probably lose 2, with the last match ending in a draw. What I'm looking for today is an attack that looks coordinated and even creates a couple of chances. [/i]

    Bornstein = Not Good Enough.

    Good work, Jozy!

Heavy handed red card from the Chilean Official.

Can you audition to stay in a job??

1st Act: Not bad. Josy forgot his lines for a moment, but recovered and left the crowd screaming for more.

Looking forward to the 2nd Act, but still figuring out if this drama is a tragedy.

No Comedy to go along with this Tragedy. Only thing stopping the hook from coming out and curtain dropping, may be that we played a man down. Clearly exploited by Italy in 2nd half.

The 3rd Act better be a hum-dingger, or the tomatoes are coming out and this will be Bob's swan song.

    Ref was paid off

Hate Italy more than any team on face of the earth - even Mexico, they are a slimely lot of cheatin', sexist pigs.

We should not have said anything about Rossi or DeRossi in our pregame threads. We cursed ourselves.

Bob was outcoached by Lippi. However, if he cant outcoach the US when he is up a man then maybe he shouldnt be coaching them. I wish Bob would have brought in fresh legs earlier.

I'm turning down the volume from now on whenever Alexi Lala in on camera.

Sorry the result has made me unstable for the moment.

I can't understand how Bradley is supposed to be fired if we don't beat Egypt and Brazil. How in the world is he at fault because he has players who have no business on an international squad?

Clark and Bornstein should be happy to start in the MLS. They have no business in a national team. Having said that, ... .

Clark looked okay and Bornstein didn't give away the park. The guys played well, but, having played a man down for over an hour GOT BEAT BY THE 4TH RANKED TEAM IN THE WORLD -- OH, AND ITALY IS THE WORLD CUP WINNER. Jeezus, what do you people want?

    Comments on the match:

Couldn't ESPN afford to send anybody to South Africa? You can't call a match like this from a studio in LA. It would be nice to know who's warming up, how many minutes of stoppage time, and -- you know -- little stuff like who made the tackle.

Howard = Superstud [one of three players today who really impressed me]
Spector -- He's another who played very well.
Gooch -- Solid match. Italy's second goal had to be Harkes's worst 2nd guessing from the comfort of the studio yet. He did well.
DeMerit -- Did fine for 88 minutes. Got undressed by Pirlo [he's not alone, there], but I enjoyed him "introducing himself" to Italian attackers in the first 15 minutes or so.
Bornstein -- Boca! Please come back and play LB. This kid couldn't start on any side in the English CCC.
Bradley -- Brilliant match. This man should be the face of US Soccer. It's time for the media's love affair with Landon to end.
Clark -- It wasn't a red -- certainly not a straight red. He's the opposite of Bornstein. He defends well but can't pass a ball into attack.
Feilhaber -- Started off in 2nd gear and ran out of gas. He gave the ball away far too easily for Rossi's first goal. I think we were fooled against Honduras. Poor match
Dempsey -- Played well, but once Clark was gone, there wasn't room for his creativity.
Donovan -- played very well throughout. Did a captain's job.
Altidore -- much better than in either of the WC qualifiers. He caused Italy a lot of heart-flutters.
Ref -- aside from Clark's red, I thought he had a good match.

Italy. Buffon is the world's best GK? He didn't catch a ball all game. He's the biggest disappointment. Pirlo is a thing of beauty on the pitch. Yin and Yang. DiRossi scored -- I am seriously gutted. I hate that guy. Wonder why.

So, okay, we lost, and we'll probably lose to Brazil too -- a team several Americans evidently believe we should run off the pitch -- but I thought we played up to the level of our talent. I didn't see any laziness or dispair out there. We just got beat by a better team.

    On to Thursday.

It was a spirited effort by the US. Altidore diving in the box didn't help his quest for a red, but the game was hard fought. The red card definitely cost us, but it still doesn't excuse some of the play by the U.S. I'm trying to get behind the Davies kid but I'm still not seeing any solid ball control skills from him. I like his intensity but that's all I've seen in his last 2 appearances. We should have gotten a 2-2 draw out of this one. It's a shame it was 12-10.

Unstable, Mo!?! Me too. I hate my love for this team right now...can't think about the match considering we were leading after 45 minutes!

Also, international refs, if given a chance, WILL ALWAYS CALL AGAINST THE U.S., thus this can't even be a complaint for us anymore...it's a given. From asshole's red card for the elbow in the Olympics to the red card today...while not a good foul, in no way is that a red card at the 33rd minute on Rico's first foul, but I'm wrong b/c apparently it was. The no-call on the Italian defender mugging Donovan in the box late in the 2nd was egregious (you can't go through a player to get the ball - Donovan was entitled to his space).

Fucking DeRossi - his shot had no business finding the net and he should thank Gooch and Howard for his good fortune, but still it was a great try.

I loved the effort down a man, but in the end, this match reminded me that the U.S. is not good enough, from the coach to the players. There's NOBODY in the US squad that can even put the shots on net, let alone score them, like Rossi and DeRossi did.

Fuck Italy. Y besa mis nalgas to the ref.

...and God bless him for exercising his free will, but having a kid born in NEW FUCKING JERSEY score 2 against the U.S. is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth...bitter indeed.

Bradley and Dempsey were probably the best players out there for us today.

I got so fucking tired of watching Cakes get dispossessed, I almost turned the match off. I hate his little ass because he gets my hopes up with his darting little moves and dribbles, but then he whimpily gives the rock up right to the opponents feet. He sucks for everything he almost is. Quit fucking with my emotions you little twat!

True. the USA did not have a terrible match at all, and arguably played better than any of their CONCACAF qualifiers. But this is the rest of the world, and we seriously need to get our shit together. I am more convinced than ever that we just don't yet have an American coach who understands the international game, and unlike Don, I can't take the status quo, "be happy getting to the World Cup", defeatist attitude anymore. This country was created by the sweat of men and women with much more pride and demands upon themselves than that.

Klinsy, SAVE UUUUUSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Time for some good ol' German tactical nous.

this sucks, but also doesn't surprise me.

rossi is symptomatic of the globalized age. how someone can be born in one place, live their life somewhere else, and then play for that other place shows that in the coming decades -- especially with this new and bogus FIFA law -- national teams will essentially act as de-facto clubs.

Rossi doesn't play for Italy because he likes Italy more than the USA. Its because they're better at football. And he's following the trophies.

I liked how Spector played today. I wonder if he can play LB or move Frankie to LB once he returns from injury if Dolo is still out.

Also, was DeMerit's play worthy of starting him at CB and moving Boca to LB once he returns from injury? I am starting to lean that direction if no one steps up in the LB position.

Hey, timmay; weren't you pimpin' Jermaine Jones for the USMNT a few days ago? Say what you want about Rossi, he wanted to play for the Azzuri from day one. Jones only wants to play for us because he knows he has no chance at playing for Germany again.
