I know I will be unpopular for saying this but as a forward; I'd put my money on Ching over Dempsey any day.

no Jozy, no Ching, no Donovan, only two MLS players -- wonder when we'll actually see our "Best 11" again. I think we saw it in Krakow.

my bad; Landon is there. So there's three MLS players. You can't really expect any more than that, Mo -- especially with MLS hit with the Olympics as well.

I honestly dont understand how the players and the coaches juggle the various priorities; I just dont like Dempsey playing forward.

I hear "my bad" all the time now. When did that start and where?

I've noticed that we seem to have a lot of midfielders "listed" as forwards-- they don't necessarily play there on game day, but we've a dearth of actual strikers and a wealth of attacking mids and wingers.

I could be underinformed (Bradley doesn't HAVE to play a guy in his listed position, does he?) but it seems to me to be a way to stack the deck: list A-mids as "forwards" along with 2-3 guys who are actually strikers.

That is, until we either get 4 guys we can comfortably call "forwards" or until we run into the next gen of players, where the balance of talent may weigh less heavily toward the middle of the field.

Mo, I can't claim to be an authority on pop slang, but "My bad" can be traced back as far as the early '90s movie "Clueless" with Alicia Silverstone, though that may not be the definitive reference. :)

I asked this question on the "released players" thread, but it's probably more at home here.

If Boca has been released, wouldn't it be stupid for him to play against England? If he's under contract to nobody, an injury in this match could literally cost him millions.

Or, conversely, if Boca is still under contract but has been told "we're not going to renew you," does this lessen the sting of an injury. In my mind, unless he's signed to a new contract somewhere by Monday, he should tell Bradley he can't play against England. It only makes sense, huh?

It does Don and I agree completely if you are looking at it from 'purely' a financial perspective. He may want to play anyway if it means a lot to him personally but it does have risk and a huge downside if he does get hurt.

I suppose if Boca were to get injured it would be bad. Although if he were to have an outstanding game, it might increase his chances of getting a nice contract somewhere?

Plus, I think's it's bad news to think about getting injured in a game. Jinxes and all.

understand, but I'm thinking more about his family than the USMNT and figuring that he'd do the same. But, I'll let it die here.

Sounds like a job for the .... ta da...
'World's Foremost Authority": That's good because it's lots older than that. My kids used it in HS and that was mid-eighties... in fact I thought it had a 'hippie' origin.

    so here's a hint: Google

    origin of phrase "my bad"

    And Bingo!

BTW: etymology suggests apology for 'missed pass' in basketball, I recall now, I heard it on the soccer field.

Seems to me USSF covers Boca if a club doesnt.

Playing and doing well in the friendly will do wonders for his options this summer. Historically speaking, "out of contract" guys love internationals because its a great opportunity to showcase yourself in front of a lot of scouts.

Speaking of him I have a question. I saw an EPL archive game on FSC from 10 years ago (I think he was on ManU and they were playing Newcastle). He scored a hat trick and was super quick. What happened to him? I know he is still a very good player, but he doesnt seem to have lived up to the promise he showed as a teenager.

And Petty please dont show me how to look it up. I want the FUSA version.

michael Owen's only problem is staying healthy. He's still a menace in the opponent's penalty area. He reminds me a lot of a former Leicester City and Spurs striker named Garly Linaker, in that they are both great scorers of goals rather that scorers of great goals.

I thought Owen had a good year -- when he was healthy; his goals per minutes played should put him right up there.
