Woah Don, really? No love for the Slovenes?

I thought they outplayed us until Bob threw everything forward and they began hunkering down.

However I agree with you regarding his awful job all around. We just got screwed last.

And have we already forgotten Findley's card and now suspension from a ball that HIT HIM IN THE FACE!?!?!

The match graphics did say "offside" but the ESPN.com recap says a foul, and I saw someone say elsewhere that it was a foul by Edu which I did not see at all.

My favorite part was when Landon says "**** you Jobu, I do it myself."

Yep.. another howler. I should have copied the Chatroom banter onto here...
    {I'm gonna tell the truth, it didnt bother me much because I dont think Findley is effective out there}

Some said elsewhere "What about the start-off dustup? Maybe Dempsey should have been carded."

Well.. maybe.. but he wasnt .. so what is that we're saying about Over Compensation, again?
    -----------------------------------------------------
And yeah.. LD's goal came on yet another GK brain-fart. But how does that figure in?

    Oh, HERE WE GO!!!!!

US suffers from law of the wrestling ring

Plenty of ambiguity in there. But we all know what the writer really means.... nudge nudge, wink wink.

Almost complete shit in the first half. I was really disgusted. That dude who socred the first goal could have sat down for a picnic before popping it past Timmy (it was a good shot by the way). I was actually sick to my stomach thinking we've regressed to '98 again. My blood was boiling.

I just can't figure out the Jekyll and Hyde of this team. It pisses me off to no end. Why must you get kicked in the nuts to step your game up!?

But....I agree with those who say the game is 90 minutes plus stoppage and as far as I could tell, a 3rd goal went in for the US until I see evidence otherwise (other than the main evidence of the scorline being 2-2). On that set piece M Bradley could start a new fashion trend consisting of a belt made up of Slovenian arms and clasped hands for the buckle.

On the positive, Bradley did make the right moves, the team did respond the only way they could in the situation, and they played well enough to get a deserved point and have a serious arguement for all 3 and control of their destiny.

Ref was utter shit all the way around with the US recieving the shortest end of the stick. Guy should not be allowed back on the pitch again in this WC.

Please guys, all I ask is that you come out and play the whole 90 minutes v. Algeria. Pretty please.....

PS deMerit and 'Dolo, the chances of you scoring from 35+ yards out are really, really slim. Think twice before you try one of those bombs again.

Mr. Simon Haydon can go fuck himself as well.

And Coach Bob was a fuckin' man today - he showed guts to start with Torres and drop the familiar Rico (hindsight is 20/20), and I echo my compatriots in that his tactical switches were among the best, if not the best, he's ever demonstrated.

Now I'm off to insert some Irish Spring into my mouth as that's what my mother would want, and maybe some Irish Whiskey too...because that's what my father would want me to do.

Jeez... I didn't know MB had 4 arms. Maybe he should be a goalkeeper.

A nice bit of constructive venting by Peter King.
    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/s ... index.html

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Hope you're enjoying that monster suite in the Michelangelo Hotel, Sepp Blatter, and the luxurious massages and, I assume, the caviar and nightly champagne. Your sport's burning.

I may not be as outraged about the outcome of Friday's crucial World Cup game between America and Slovenia were I not American. But whether you're from Mars or Marietta or, in the incompetent match referee's country, Mali, you should be outraged. Because it wasn't just the United States that got robbed here Friday, it was also the slogan FIFA shoves down the world's throats every year.

    "Fair Play.''

    .....
"We waited our whole lives for this, and you feel like it was taken from you,'' said goalkeeper Tim Howard.

But there was a general sense of resignation among the U.S. players. Sad, really. Like, There's nothing we can do about this incompetence, and we better zip our lips or we might pay with vengeful officiating in future games.

"It's the sport we live with,'' said Jay DeMerit.

That's the kind of thinking that needs to change.

The U.S. played well. Slovenia were great the first half. The U.S. problem was little Torres. Nice, nice player... but not big enough to play against any 6ft technically skilled Slav from Slovenia. They blew him off the ball constantly and blocked too many of his passes. His play stifled U.S. production in the first half... otherwise, I think they would have scored at least once.

Great heart of course. That's the one thing special about American teams is they great heart... and great physical gifts, like speed and stamina.

We're in the driver seat of sorts. We need to just win against sorry ass Algeria. And they are sorry ass.

    We can do this.

Go America. Concord England out of the World Cup. Remember New Orleans! Woot!

Many a time do I say that a team is basically ass raped by the refs but rarely do I mean it. For this game, I mean it.

Well the issue about Torres was that Bob started him in a holding role alongside his son.

I thought we'd see a 4-4-2 diamond thingy with Torres taking the point. Instead, Torres played the Clark/Edu role in a straight 4-4-2 and Slovenia ran riot.

Would Roy ever put Zoltan in Dickson's role? No.

    Bob did today though.

Crap ref aside (and he was terrible), we were just as poor in the first half. My understanding of Torres' game is that he provides better distribution. However, he spent most of the time at the back of the midfield with the ball at his feet. He stalled the attack and he's too small to pull that off. Slovenia quickly discovered they could knock him off the ball. Torres, today, resembled a latino Freddy Adu.

When the back four weren't trying to figure out who to mark and laying off of attackers (no thanks to the central midfield), they were hoofing long balls to Findley. If that was the strategy, then ya'll need to rescind some of those kudos directed at Bob.

Most aspects of our first half play were lazy and uninspired. Kudos for bouncing back and we should have escaped with all 3 points but a win is going to be critical against Algeria and we probably won't get away with spotting an early lead again.

Finally watched the second half, and a couple of thoughts:

Deja Vu moment: On Donovan's roof shot, did anyone else have a flashback to 4 years ago v Ghana? With almost the identical scenario Landon in '06 didn't want to shoot and forced a poor pass, this time he backed up all his talk about leading the team.

Edu or Clark HAVE to start. Now is not the time for Torres and Bradley to figure out their CM partnership. Maurice or Ricardo need to be in because...

Facing the facts. The CB combo for a lack of a better word..mediocre. DeMerit because of talent, and Gooch because of inactivity.

Jozy's partner. What does Bob do? Bring in Buddle or move Clint up and give Holden a shot? I hope he calls Edson's number.

The Ref: I got nothing else to add, but for venting purposes, HE SUCKED!! Findley's yellow was a joke, if he thought it went off his arm okay, but doesn't a card need to happen because Findley intended to bring it down? Calls generally balance out, but when the decisive moment of the match is blown so incredibly bad, and the ref doesn't have to explain it...

    quote from the movie snatch...

Ever crossed the road and looked the wrong way? And hey presto, a car's nearly on you, so what do you do? You freeze. And your life doesn't flash before your eyes, 'cause you're too fucking scared to think – you just freeze, and pull a stupid face.
