Aside from that horrible turnover before the first half, I thought Besler played well. And he has been a lot better than Omar in these qualifiers.

Agree, he's got an Aaron Hughes quality about him.

I think you're thinking of Boyd? I believe Fabian may be one of the few that grew up seeing his Dad. Who was not only in Germany because of the military, but played pro basketball there as well

I also remember a story of him going to the US embassy in Germany to get his passport with his dad.

As for the match, only saw the first half...fell asleep during halftime. :( I'll have to find some highlights of the second half on YouTube to see the goal.

Well said, sir. Three points is three points, and this takes a lot of pressure off our lads for the next round. Nine points! The only downside of the night for me was the relegation of Cameron after such a big showing against Panama. I understand the numbers, but wouldn't it have been great to build up his confidence coming off that excellent performance from a defender to midfield switch that paid such huge dividends? Would like to see if he can keep that consistency at that position for US (screw Stoke, they can go blow themselves).

You were right, I thought it was Boyd's dad who married and stayed in Germany, but it was Fabian's  . Boyd's stepdad was a professional footballer that he credits with his development. Boyd had to track down his father in order to get a passport.

Going forward I'm just going to judge these players on playing merit. They all speak english well, all are American citizens, and give their best efforts for the team that they want to be on.

Good result but I thought the US looked disconnected again and the CB's each made bad blunders that thankfully werent punished the way they were in Honduras. I also didnt appreciate the diving by EJ, Demps, and someone else (I think it was Jones). Speaking of Jones, he was awful. Bad foul (made it too late), kept falling, and had some bad giveaways that could've been punished. I was so happy when Cameron came on.

There was some good stuff by Jozy, Dempsey, EJ, Zusi, Johnson, and Bradley, but I'm not sure anyone had a great full 90. In that heat at that altitude, I guess that's not surprising. I thought Brad Davis did really well when he came on, providing the spark needed from a sub. Would certainly like to see more of him for the rest of the Hex. Castillo - I dont see the need for him.

While not close to Seattle, SLC still provided a fantastic atmosphere for an important qualifier. Nice to hear the "we are going to Brazil" loud and clear.
