The new Pope

Same old song and dance. Nothing will change in the Catholic church. As a Catholic and more importantly a Bible carrying follower of Jesus Christ I have a hard time believing God would condone all these rituals, lack of changes, and the vast arrogance of the process of both electing a new Pope and identifying the individual power they give to one human being.
Think about the SIZE of the Catholic following worldwide and compare it to the process of electing a President in the United States. Then think about how you would feel if a handful of people that none of us knew got together in total seclusion to decide who our next President would be. I do not know about you but that would leave me just a bit unsettled.

I am sure he is a good guy at the core and means well for the Catholic Church, but it was clear the whole process of electing the Pontiff and the rules and traditions that govern him and the Catholic church need to be revitalized.

 

Well, fair for you to say, as a Catholic.

But as a non-catholic who does NOT believe in many of the core tenets of the Vatican, I still protest those outside the Church or even Christianity throwing rocks at this guy in the way they have. Especially Dowd in the NY Times... and those who rail about Hitler Youth

But I would like you to consider... should church doctrine depend on public polls?

 

Very good points pettyfog. The position of the Pope is one that has a serious effect on the lifestyle of many practicing Catholics. Be it out of fear or otherwise, their is a reason Catholic family's (not so much anymore) have 8-12 children. However, you make an excellent point, religious standards should not be set for human convenience, they should be set for God's standards as best they can.
