    Well now we know the results. Erm sorta. I don't want to get a head of myself but things look good in Montana and Virgina. If things hold last night will defiantly qualify as a success.

    Err...I heard he was stepping down before I left for England, read it in the Washington Post (I think). Did I miss something?

    Yes, you missed defiantly telling the media last week that Rumsfeld was not going anywhere. That he was happy with the job he was doing and that he was the right man for the job.

    Sounds like some flip-flopping or some squabbles were going on in the White House just before the election, the administration came up with a replacement for him very quickly for that declaration to be true.

    The nail in the coffin was the Army/Navy/Air Force Times Monday editorial recommending his firing. This is an unheard of thing for these publications to publish. Although they are independent from the chain, no periodical has anywhere near the connection to the senior and middle brass that the Times' do.
