EDIT: Oh yeah, there's numerous stories in the papers that Dembele has confirmed that Real Madrid contacted his agent. But that's about it, haven't put any bid in with Fulham.

Clint Dempsey has told Martin Jol that he wants to leave Fulham.
The American has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool, but the Reds are yet to make a bid.
It's unknown whether the 29-year-old has handed in a formal transfer request but Fulham have used their official twitter feed to confirm that Dempsey wants away from the Cottagers.
The former New England Revolution playmaker has been dropped from Fulham's squad to play Norwich.
A statement read: "Martin Jol confirms Clint Dempsey wishes to leave the Club.
Martin Jol said: "If we get the right price for Clint we will sell him. If not, he will stay. We have money to invest, but only in the right players

If you want the right price then why not play him. Let him score some goals to help with the bids. The fact that Jol has to come out and say this makes me wonder if no one has bid and they are trying to drum up interest. Sad either way. :crying-yellow:

I think it's because Dempsey has said he wants away and Fulham doesn't want him risking injury and lower the price. It's more risky for all involved for him to play than not.

Clint Dempsey wants to leave Fulham, says Martin Jol

Fulham boss Martin Jol has confirmed Clint Dempsey wants to leave and they will sell him for the right price.
Jol said the United States forward was not in the squad for Saturday's match against Norwich.
He told a pre-match news conference: "If we get the right price for Clint we will sell him. If not, he will stay."
Earlier in the summer a post appeared on the website of the company that owns Liverpool suggesting the Reds had signed him.

It was later taken down with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers saying: "Clint is a player we've enquired about, it is as simple as that."
The 29-year-old scored 23 goals in 46 appearances last season and has one year left on his contract at Craven Cottage.
But Dempsey pulled out of Fulham's pre-season training camp in Switzerland and Jol said he had not been involved with the London club for a month.
Jol added: "I would like to keep him, but I think it's impossible. It's a sad and an almost embarrassing situation."
He has been left furious at Liverpool's actions.
"That was very disappointing," Jol said.
"There was never an offer. Clint himself told everyone he was going to Liverpool before he came back so we really thought there was quite a firm interest in him.
"Even [Rodgers] told everyone he was interested in Clint Dempsey, but our people never had an offer on the table, so it's almost embarrassing.
"If you have shown interest in a player, especially in England, you have to follow it up with an offer. They didn't."
Jol warned the club would sell Dempsey - but not at any price.
"I can assure you that our chairman is strong enough. At first we didn't want to get rid of him, later on we had to change our position.
"But our view is that we won't let Clint Dempsey go on the cheap, that's for sure."

Sounds like Liverpool have stitched him up. That or Dempsey and/or his agent are incredibly stupid. Of course, the window isn't closed so they still have time to officially table a bid. Either way, I've been less than impressed with the way Liverpool have conducted their business, on just about any front, since the Fenway Group took over.

I'm wondering two things.
1. Why didn't/doesn't Clint just put in a transfer request?
2. Why is Fulham making this public? They can say they'll only sell for a price, but he still leaves for free in May if they insist on digging in their heels. With this coming out, the club have lost all leverage in getting full valuation for the player.

What a mess.

I'm not sure Fulham can play it any other way. World Cup qualifiers are coming soon, and I doubt Dempsey will sit out for that, so they can't play the old hangnail injury sit-out while we get some offers for you route. Hopefully, it will make other clubs aware of the situation and trigger a mini bidding war? I think it's somewhat wise for Fulham to publicly state they are not going to sell him on the cheap no matter what.

I must say I'm mad at both sides. Mad at Dempsey for wanting to go to Liverpool (didnt I say good luck in hell), mad at the club for what's happening now. They are being too public about this and making Dempsey look very bad. Maybe it is all his fault, but it wouldnt be the first time Mo acts like a child when someone important to his club wants out. Not that long ago Dempsey was saying a lot of his best memories were with Fulham and now he is a villian.

But they'll have to do just that. There's no way they let him rot in the reserves til January or for a full season. There's no upside for the club in that. Agree with you though that Fulham are likely hoping this opens up a bidding war by alerting everyone Dempsey definitely wants out.

I'm starting to grow concerned that we may have some chemistry issues as it pertains to our veteran players and Jol.

I thought Jol's style of play was perfect for Clint. It's all too bad, unless a good team comes sweeping in for the Texan and everyone can move on. On top of all this, today is Clint's sisters birthday. She would have been 33

Clint refuses to play. It's his own fault for any negative comments he gets from Fulham Fans. It's a shame it's ending this way. Liverpool and Clint's agent thought it was pretty much a done deal, but they didn't run it by Fulham first. Morons.

Never trust a Scouser? It is negligent for Clint or his agent to not cya and continue in a professinal manner in case a deal fell through. Of course, the flipside to that is that if Fulham are adamant about meeting a certain valuation, there's really only one way to force their hand.

Doubtful we'll ever know the whole story, but just reading between the lines of what has transpired this summer, I think it's safe to assume there's plenty of blame to go around for all parties.
