People need to stop freaking out about what AJ costs. It's not your concern, it's Al Fayed's concern . . and he's rich as hell, so shut it!!

AJ is an exciting signing, and people should be happy rather than trying to find a way to sh*t on it.

Don't get me wrong, he will add loads of pace and he will score goals. There is no doubt in that, but I felt that Fulham overpaid for an English striker.

If I had the 10 million quid that MAF paid for AJ, I would attempt to sign Saha for that same price. Both AJ and Saha have dealt with injuries and who is to say AJ's fitness will hold out over Saha's. Saha can score loads of goals, Fulham fans still favor him and he can score goals out of virtually nothing. Saha's price tag has fluxuated over the transfer window, but I believe Fulham could have made a promising bid.

AJ will obviously be the featured striker for Fulham now, but Zamora will be just as valuable in my opinion.

I can see it now, Andy & Eddie matched up as The Brothers Johnson.
A little "Strawberry Letter 23" anyone?

    OK, I am old...

I just feel a bit queesy about this one.

12million for Andy Johnson. Really? No, really?

Lets cherry pick two quality strikers last season and see how much each cost:

Roque Santa Cruz (19 goals) 3.5million
Benjani (15) 4million (incentive laden contract though)

Unless AJ scores around 15 goals, he's going to be a bust. There's no way around it.

After every goal we'll hear: "A present from you, strawberry letter 22, the music plays, I sit in for a few..."

    HaHa!! Nice one.

    Brilliant!

I think AJ comes good for us. I've been impressed with him while at Everton regardless the niggling injuries.

You young guys really missed out with the old Brother Johnson. Got to love YouTube so you can see a band I saw live when I was in 9th grade. These guys were the 'one hit wonders' off all time. This song got a lot play in it's day. Nice knowledge Misfitkid!

Fulham is just lucky Andrew Johnson wants to leave Everton for Fulham. Usually this kind of transfer works the other way around.

... and if Fulham does okay this year, they'll be able to move in one or two more quality people next summer.

Well, AJ wanted to come to London, so I hope it says something for Mr. Hodgson that Fulham nabbed him instead of the other outfits. I'm happy the club went for a proven name and I pray to all dieties that it pays off.

I think when people say they're concerned about what he costs, they mean that they're assuming that there's a limited budget available to Roy and that if he spends a very large portion of it on one player, there might be less available for other areas that also need bolstering (center back, say).

The other issue is that people are concerned about another Steve Marlet. A 3 million player who doesn't perform isn't the end of the world, a 12 million player who doesn't perform might seriously spook the owner.

I'm happier with it if it's 8 up front plus incentives, in any case. Not that I wouldn't have loved to have Roque Santa Cruz at 3.5, of course.

That's a lotta money. He's the guy who was a big disappointment for Germany in the Euro, wasn't he? If we've got that much money to throw around, I can think of guys I'd rather spend it on than AJ and Gomez, but even so, of course there's also the signability issue.

Yep, he was the guy. Makes me wonder who they are going to sell now. If we sign both AJ and Super Mario, we have 4 guys behind them, not to mention a whole bunch of midfielders. They must be thinking of starting a summer sale. The other thought I had was maybe they are leaking this to get AJ signed up quicker. Who knows.

I'll need to see this reported from someone else other than the Sun before I pay any attention at all to this one.

The Sun is the king of tabloid journalism in the English media. I don't trust the story as much as I would like to.

I also find it strange that Fulham's previous highest transfer fee was 6-7 million quid for Kamara and that jumped to 10-12 million for Johnson, now 33 million for Gomez... highly doubt it.

Mario Gomez would be unbelievable. He's a stud. Just about every German pundit thought he was the best German forward in the Bundesliga last year.

Normally, I wouldn't pay any attention to anything written in The Sun, but I do believe they were the first to link us with AJ. Not that that means anything substantial.

But anyway...um...wow. Gomez would be incredible. I'd rather spend the money on the best CB available, but still.
