Thanks Tom. Good info and I hope he can help them pick up the offense. They are pretty good on defense but struggle scoring goals.

I'm starting to feel a little uneasy about the Zamora rumor and hope it is just a smoke screen for another deal. I'm actually starting to like the idea of Kitson more than anyone else that is in the news so far. With Crouch going for nearly 11M, 3M for Kitson seems like a great deal....IMHO

That article raises some decent points. My quibble with it is:

The author seems to be saying "It's hard to find a guy who can score consistently. What you need is a few guys who can set up chances and a few guys who can knock those chances home. The latter include Zamora, Nevland, Healy, Dempsey. So, hey, even if you can't expect Zamora to score 20 goals, he's still good to have around."

What the author neglects, though, is cost. Dempsey cost 2 million pounds. Healy's fee was reported to have been around 1.5M. Nevland's was 3 million Euros after the triggering of an add-on clause when FFC stayed up. Not to mention we'd like to believe that Collins John (if he sticks around) and Eddie Johnson can knock in the odd goal here and there. (John 600k pounds, Johnson $6M.) Yes, Zamora is good to have around as a guy who might be expected to knock in some goals. 6 million pounds, if that's actually the price, is too much to pay for him, though.

This is true, excpet that Bobby Zamora has a few years of EPL experience under his belt. That's why he will cost more than Dempsey, Nevland, and Healy. 6m pounds probably isn't the straight up fee, I would imagine. It's probably 3-4m pounds, with add ons up to 6m.

There simply aren't many quality strikers in the transfer market this season. So Fulham is going to have make do with somebody.

    RE: Summer 2008 In

Would I officially be starting the Sacha Kljestan movement at this point?

Super-impressed, before but even more so after the MLS's lame attempt at billing something a Super Classico.

Re: Fulham Still In For A. Johnson

Not as reliable as the Guardian or the BBC. If it is serious, the BBC will put it in its Gossip section tomorrow. The Daily Mail probably isn't the worse source out there.

    From the BBC on Sunday:

The Cottagers are planning a £4m bid for Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara after failing to land him on loan. (Various)

Fulham midfielder Lee Cook, who has not played for the club since his move from QPR because of injury, is a target for Wolves and Sheffield United. (News of the World)

Fulham have emerged as favourites to sign Everton striker Andrew Johnson for £10m after having a £5m bid rejected. (Various)

However, West Ham have bid £11m for the striker and look likely to beat Wigan and Fulham to his signature. (News of the World)

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill wants to sign Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Freidel, despite agreeing a £2m deal to sign fellow American keeper Brad Guzan. (The People)

That's too much for Andy Johnson.

He's English, so it's ridiculous transfer fees. Who knows what hand Roy's been dealt by Al Fayed? Johnson would be a welcome addition to the side for sure though.

I know we are not going to get him, but wouldn't Kitson be a much better deal? I think AJohnson is better than anyone else we have right now but wouldn't Crouch have been better for the same money?

Johnson hasn't been good since refs started booking players for diving.

    Smith: Davis price too high

Rangers can pound sand if they're not willing to give us reasonable value for him. I say keep him, Danny Murphy isn't going to be a useful contributor forever and Davis's skills could be useful if we're going to continue to try to play a possession game.

First, Kitson and AJ are two different kinds of players. Second, Crouch never, ever wanted to come to Fulham and his wage bill is beyond Fulham's sound financial capabilities.

... and again, for the umpteenth millionith time, it isn't all about the affordability of the transfer fee. The player has to want to move to your club (Crouch to Fulham makes no sense for Crouch since Fulham is the 17th best team in the league and he wants to play for England) and the club has to agree to the player's personal terms, i.e., his wages and his accessories.

The players, in the end, do not cost the same amount. So lets not tell ourselves that they do.

Lyle, I get ya. They don't publish wages as frequently as they do transfer fees, so it is easy for us amateurs to make the comparison that the team is paying the same based on transfer fees and to forget about wages.

    From the ever famous Barra:

Sounds very, very promising although there are severe reservations bout how much we are paying for Zamora and out Pantsil in general.

I hope that £7 million was for both Zamora and Pantsil.

Lyle: great post. Redknapp has the wages and the added plus of UEFA to offer Crouch.
