So 2 goals makes a season? How was he besides those 2 goals? Better yet how did Healy do?

You cannot pay 6M for a players who was absolute SHIT in the premier league and say it's a good buy. We've done this time and fucking again and look where it's gotten us. I don't care if s\he scored those 2 goals. It doesn't matter. If we buy Beattie and expect him to roll in the goals, we're going down.

I'm sorry. I missed the part of this thread where ANYBODY said that Kamara and Healy were great buys.

    Are you related to Pettyfog?

Then why did you post that rubbish about the goals?

Kamara had quality service from the likes of Gera and Greening. West Brom, unlike many Championship-level clubs, plays with considerable style under Mowbray. That is something we should've considered: how much of it was Kamara and how much of it was the quality service from the midfielders? (It will be interesting to see how Kamara responds to Gera being on his side again. It may well result in better performances as an old understanding and comfort-level establishes itself again.)

Beattie doesn't have someone like Gera or Greening giving him consistent and quality passing to convert into goals. His work was done largely in a fashion McBride would be familiar with: scoring by anticipation, effort, and an ability to carve out opportunities on his own. This is why you would pay attention to him and why he would be worth a punt at £6 million.

When judging Beattie, why should we solely assess him by his years with Everton? You can't just pick and choose the time you wish to judge a player. Your best bet is to judge him by what he has accomplished in this past year and then balance that against the previous seasons.

Because Everton was his last premier league team. THAT'S why you assess him on that performance. Last season he was in the championship. I think that since we're in the premier league, we should go by premier league standards and he was shit.

That's terrible logic. Maybe if we have someone other than Kamara, we score more goals and we're never IN that situation to need to get two late goals against Man City.

what logic? he asked what did Kamara do last season, so I told him.

Agree that someone else might have done better. I never said otherwise. It would be IMPOSSIBLE not to make that argument. That's what keeps pubs from closing.

Fine. Kamara scored two important goals. They didn't keep us in the Premier League because other goals scored by other players in other games were required to do that too, and other than that he was a disappointment.

I think The Times' Fink Tank page ran an article last season where they rated West Brom as around the 10th best team in England. So yeah, Diomansy almost certainly benefited from some very good service up there. He needed to be on the end of short passes from players like Gera and Murphy, not longballs from Chris Baird.

Well for £6.5 millon we could get this...

Good numbers in a platoon-role with Liverpool. Decent scoring touch. Improves every year holding and distributing the ball like a Niall Quinn or a Duncan Ferguson.

I don't believe we're going to put £10 million plus into a striker. If you want a decent forward at this level, then Crouch fits the bill and comes at the right price

Added plus: he has had some classic matches against the Chelscum. His arrival at SW6 would not make them happy.

I love Crouch. Would love to have him with FFC. You know Al Fayed isnt spending money on barristers anymore so maybe he'll splurge.

At the least, he could...well, should...provide some decent headers. Though not as good as a certain American we all know and love. Seriously, Crouch isn't a bad idea, though I fear he could end up like Kamara - a pretty big transfer fee that didn't yield as much as expected.

I'd much rather have Crouch than Beattie, but I thought "The Robot" was going for closer to 10 mil than 6.

Just 10mil? I though Rafa valued him at something ridiculous like 15-20.

Although, with Darren Bent at 16m....anything is possible.

Plus, I expect Woy to not buy any English lads -- they're expensive and he's got too much continental acumen and clout. And its a great thing.
