How many indoor World Cup matches have there been - any? I dont want to see a World Cup match under a roof with AC. Although Houston is an extremely convenient venue for me to visit I would not go there to see a once in a lifetime game under a roof. If we get a WC, a big if I would think, I'll be driving to Balitmore or Indy

It was done in Detroit in 94. Even Wimbledon has a roof, we can play soccer under one.

Having seen the US in a friendly (v El Tri) at Reliant, it's probably not what you're thinking Mo. It really doesn't have the "dome" feel to it. In fact you hardly notice the roof aspect at all. They've really made some big strides in the retractable roof stadium arena.

That said, no way in hell it's 72 degrees on the field in there. They don't have that much control. But the players won't be dropping like flies like they would be outdoors either.

and air-conditioned air is the only air fit to breathe in Houston anyhow.

While I appreciate you guys trying to reason with me about the roof issue, it can be done. And Spencer, Wimbledon is a bit different. They cant play tennis in the rain and it happens to rain quite often in England.

I'm personally very happy with Atlanta being on the list. The Georgia Dome is covered and climate controlled. It's easy to get to and in the middle of downtown (by CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and Coke/ Pemberton Park).

I saw AC Milan v. Club America there...I think it would be a great venue for a couple of matches :)!

Y'all can crash on my couch...

As you know though... Houston, Phoenix, and Dallas have roofs.

Not having Chicago as a host is moronic though.

The Gelsenkirchen venue in Germany was also roofed. In fact more and more European teams are building domed or roofed stadia. This is especially true in Scandinavia and the Netherlands.

    Here's an early Dutch example:

Mo, better plan on Baltimore in 2022, Indy has a retractable roof also, that will be guaranteed to be closed w/the Indiana humidity. More of a concern than the roof (as Ag said the new stadiums want to bring as much light in a possible, even when closed) is the field turf. Not one footballer in the world wants to play the most important games of their lives on that stuff

I'm pretty sure they would replace it with grass for the WC. I believe they did that in '94 in Detroit (and maybe in other places as well).

This guy's got a good point. This list can not possibly be the final word on the matter. How many shiny new stadiums are going to be built in this country by 2018 (or 2022)?

I may take you up on that, though considering how old I'll be in 2022, maybe a couch isn't the best idea ;-)

It's already been announced that all of the fields will have real grass installed.

I'll plan to have basement place open for FulhamUSAers who want to catch games in Baltimore or DC. I'm sure we'll discuss it more both after the announcement of us getting the 22 cup and as we get closer.
