Uh, yes, I'm sure we're all glad that you're not still whinging or anything.

LOL -- yes, PF, one can certainly see all the character and reason with which you defend your views. Why, nothing says "I believe in my views and can support them logically" like threatening a banning in response to a joke.

But yes, by all means, BACK TO THE TOPIC: Given the number of matches from last year that ended in similar fashion, a good whinging about it is defintely in order this week.

Anyone with a non-spongiform brain cell MIGHT think I was explaining why I was participating in the hijack...

normally I dont respond to Trolls however, NOW I begin to see I misjudged your intentions.

Perhaps if you'd adapted an avatar with more goat-like features it might have given a clue.
Yet another hint! Perhaps you'll let us in on what exactly went wrong. That might firm it up.

My view is that the schema finally wore down. Otherwise, we certainly had them frustrated as hell.

Oh, Good Christ already -- had I known my little joke would inspire such a knee-jerk display of defensiveness on such a grand scale, I might have given pause before posting it.

Yes, yes, PF, enough already -- you need not convince me of anything, good sir! As I've tried to make clear, learned friend, no one admires more than I the dogged determination with which you continue to ride the Titanic to the ocean floor, all the while loudly proclaiming its seaworthiness and decrying the intelligence and patriotism of those who took to the lifeboats or avoided boarding in the first place. Yes, Pettyfog, you "win."

Now, PLEASE stop whinging about it already.

As for the match, what went wrong? The same as last year, it would appear -- the inability to close out a match with the same focus and determination shown for the first 80+ minutes. Throw in a bit of bad luck to boot, and Fulham were doomed, as surely as if they had just struck an iceburg.

Now, come on, Petty -- gives us a kiss, precious.

    Has Fog met his match?

Will HatterDon and ChicagoFan form an alliance?

Could this be the end of our Conservative Hero?

    Heh...

After full consideration, and finding my own self in dereliction of mod duties by not moving the first zinger into 'anything goes', consider my bit in the pissfest ended.

You can take that anyway you wish.

    Weak bladder?

BTW, Bocanegra -- foul or no foul? To me, that was a foul -- but one that is rarely given under those circumstances. Some obstruction, yes, but not enough, in my mind, to alter the game so dramatically. Most refs would swallow their whistle on that one, as it would have to be pretty blatant to give a penalty with 5 minutes to go. Fulham, as usual, draw the ref with no problem pointing the spot even under such circumstances. Fulhamish, to be sure.

I wonder if part of that call was the realization that they had missed the call against Fulham in the box earlier? Sort of a "3/4 + 1/2 is at least 1" call?

That being said, we never seem to get those "3/4 + 1/2 is at least 1" calls.

Clearly Bocanegra thought he was playing basketball, and was trying to draw a charge.

I thought it was a foul. If we were watching a hockey game, it would've been a clean body check, but Boca definitely lunged with his shoulder. As I said in the other thread (or maybe it was upthread here), though, there were two other guys who should've taken the ball from Toure sooner. It was a team defending breakdown and while Boca could've handled it better, I don't think it can ALL be put on him.

But again, I thought Baird's (on Hleb in the first half) was worse and we definitely got away with one there.

That's true. Baird's tackle on Hleb was a penalty and it probably should have been 3-1 in the end. Actually, to be honest, if Warner hadn't played out his ass, it might have been a 5-1 shellacking like last year's opener against Man U.

Glad we're back on topic :)

perspective please ... Warner played like an EPL goalkeeper. He was fresh and ready. He didn't put on a Superman display. He just played very well. He's not Lastuvka, guys. And Arsenal NEVER dominated us on Sunday, certainly not enough to win by 3 or 4.

I agree. I am actually optimistic about what I saw this weekend. While a W would be nice any day of the week, but I think it shows we have much more going for us this season.

It's significant to me that Wenger made such a deal of the outcome. There's as much moaning in the gooner online camp as if their darlings might have a hard time staying up... but what concerns GOONER fans is fighting for the top spot.

I think Lawrie showed we arent going to really be carping about stupid tactics a lot. We gave up possession time but much of that possession was in the 'neutral area' and we certainly contained them and limited their quality chances.

Sure; with a little luck for them, it might have been 4-1... but with a little luck for us it might have been 3-2 in our favor
