They're not the awesomest club in the world, I don't suppose, but it's a 2,200 mile trip each way, and their stadium is artificial turf. Plus the road leg is between the Chelsea and Villa matches. It could be worse, but this isn't an easy draw.

I don't think any of us have doubts that Fulham is a better side tha Amkar Perm. The real question being asked is whether the travel, playing surface and fatigue will hamper Fulham from playing their best football. Amkar Perm also have to make the trip to London as well, so it's no easy test for them either.

I could go for another 3-0 result at home. COYW

Happy with a draw at Perm.

Plastic picthes don't bode well for the visitors.

No, especially when you consider that it's their first ever match in a European competition and their fans are going to be fired up...

well, it's definitely a new frontier (and a chance for some crimean war payback). i'm excited for this tie - fulham are gonna earn their spot in the group stage.*

*[also, this travel-schedule lends some validity to whitesbhoy's other theory that a u.s. based club could compete in a european competition]

This shouldn't be a problem. Fulham should easily cruise into the group stages. The Villa game is going to be the biggest problem, but that can be resolved by playing a reserve team in the 2nd leg.

The last two winners of the UEFA Cup have been from Russia and Ukraine; you underestimate Eastern European clubs at your own peril.

Yeah and those 2 teams were established powerhouses in their leagues. Zenit had one of the best players in Europe in Arshavin. I'd be a little more worried if we were going to be playing Lokamotiv Moscow or Sigma Olumuc, but we're playing Amker Perm. If we can't beat them at home by 2 or 3, then we're going to have problems this season.

Amkar Perm is 12th in the Russian league at the moment. Not the same team they had last season apparently.

I think its a good draw actually. We should be able to handle them. Like with Vetra, they probably can beat us if we play poorly, but I bet we cruise on through into the group stage.

There actually IS an official match day thread for this round of the Europa Cup, and it's in the 2009-2010 category, Christian.

Well, I am not so negative as to presume our European competition stops at just the upcoming tie.

And this thread has obviously engendered some following, as evidenced by the multiple replies, whether it receives the HatterDon "Official" tag or not.

So if he be so kind.
