Riverside Stand update

2021-22 season, apparently.

Looks like 2 seasons with reduced home capacity. Question: what if we go back up immediately, before new Riverside Stand is finished? Gonna be interesting for the next two seasons.

Buckingham Group built the roof for the Spurs' stadium. The roof was supposedly one of the last things built, but it was said that the delays were due to safety systems. They also built the Amex for Brighton and Hove. The Amex seemed to be completed on schedule and hosted its first match in July 2011. It was a friendly - against the Spurs

Or, at the very least, the same safety systems subcontractor. Yikes.

 

Actually the funny thing is IIRC there was no general contractor. Every trade essentially did their own thing on the own time which led to the clusterfark the process became.

This explains why the video from Craven Cottage has been at a bad angle - they are shooting from a scaffold since everything non-structural has been removed from the Riverside stand. The grounds look normal when viewed from the Riverside scaffold, but behind it big changes are happening.

 

The old Riverside stand is no more. For the time being everyone gets a view of the Thames. (The demolition video in the tweet doesn't seem to be coming through, but they have it on their Twitter feed and the website.)

If there’s a silver lining in this for our club, it’s that many fewer days having to play at a reduced capacity Cottage and, hopefully, a slightly accelerated construction schedule, coronavirus be damned.

A fresh picture from across the Thames posted today on Twitter.

 

New photos and videos have been posted by the club. For the first time you can start to see the shape of the new Riverside stand - a few framing structures that show where the rows of seats will go. The page also notes that there will be improvements in the TV gantry that have been mandated by the Premier League. Hopefully that will get rid of the severe camera angle that had difficulty showing the near touchline this past season.
