From the Fox Soccer Channel web site:

    FULHAM SET FOR TAKEOVER
Mohamed Fayed is set to sell Fulham to multi-millionaire gaming boss John Wallis, says The News of the World. Wallis attended Fulham's win over Liverpool on Saturday and the paper quotes an insider saying: "John will have talks with Fulham in the next couple of days.

"He was born in Hammersmith and has supported the club for over 40 years. He feels he can take them on to the next level.

"It was a very sad day when Johnny Haynes passed away last week. That brought home to John just how much the club means to him."

And that's just brought a tear to the eye of F365.

Just what football needs... more ties with gambling.

Though, it seems to me there's nothing to be done about it. At least open ties invite scrutiny, but I wonder hosw much further this relationship can go without some major scandal.

Why is there always doom and gloom on here?. why cant anyone see this as a "Positive" move forward rather than a "Negative" doom and gloom?

It's when I read this that it makes me think it's worse than the offal I read on FFC's messageboard.

Somebody PLEASE tell me this can only be a "Positive" buyout.
For several months I have read that Al-Fayed is not putting any more money into the club to buy players now we have a chance of "New" money and it's all doom and gloom again.

If John Wallis does get he's money from Gambling so what does that make him some kind of criminal, who cares where he's money comes from. it's none of mine or anyone elses business.

I just wish the doom and gloomers on here would read the offal they write.

If the man is going to put money into the club and not tighten the purse strings too tightly as MAF has done in the last two years, I am all for the takeover. I am extremely pleased with everything Big Mo has done for the club, but his time is nearing an end if he just expects the club to skate through each season with a thin team and no money to spend. That is a recipe for disaster if we continue this way.

If the team needs to change hands, this Wallis guy seems to be the best choice for us fans--a guy who really loves Fulham who has some money to put into the team. I'd rather that than some guy coming into the UK who buys the team just to say he owns a team, like that guy who bought Hearts seems to be.

On the gambling thing, I think that's irrelevant. Here in the States, it'd be a problem, but after all, you can bet on the game at the game! Given that, an owner with legal gambling ties seems rather tame. Several teams, including us a few years ago, have been sponsored by gambling companies. I'm not worried about the effect of gambling on the game, either; players making several million pounds a year aren't going to throw a game.

Soooorry... I meant to convey no such doom and gloom.
In future I'll post any such misgivings with the suitable preface:
"While I support any positive changes, or strengthening, in the management of Fulham FC, especially considering the superlative background of the person in question as a lifelong fan, which cannot help but brighten our prospects as fans, nontheless I have a few concerns.."
Now.. to assign that to a hot-key.

Arent we all, sorta? And what are the ties, then, to the late Edward's lifelong love? Surely her given name had family connotations.

Oh well we can only hope that maybe Casino Fortune sponsors Fulham with a view to a future buyout?

Well, its back again...it seems that the bid is still on and is quite serious. Here's a bit from the NEWS OF THE WORLD:

MULTI-MILLIONAIRE John Wallis last night insisted he is determined to go ahead with his bid to buy Fulham.

The internet-gambling tycoon has employed a company to examine the club's finances with a view to mounting a formal bid this week.

Wallis' interest was revealed last week by the News of the World, but Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed issued a denial that the club is for sale.

Yeah, it's way too early to see this as anything like a done deal, but this guy does seem very keen on buying the club...
