We recouped some of our loss on Ruiz. Now we can start working on Mitroglou, getwestlondon's favorite "Fulham misfit" headline boy...

This is from Simon Peach (London based football journalist) on twitter: #FFC did brilliantly to get so much out of #MCFC for Patrick Roberts. Initial £5m, potential extra £6m & sell-on clause in the region of 20%

I think Heather is right, MCFC didn't want Roberts to be a free agent and have more freedom to choose his next club. Also, as with any transfer, you have to factor in the agent. When a fee like this is negotiated the agent gets a big cut, sometime as much as 20%. With money like that on the table, you can be sure that Roberts' agent was encouraging him to take the deal.

There's likely also an extra £20-30 K/wk for Roberts that probably played a factor. If those numbers are accurate, a 20% sell-on is a good deal & the club could see upwards of £15M out of this deal if Roberts lives up to the hype.

I'd bet it's more likely we see £8-10M total once all is said and done, but even that is a good piece of business for a player who has yet to make an impact, was going into his last year and wouldn't sign an extension.

There are the predictable two categories of response to the Roberts transfer by Brit Fulham supporters:

    a. He'll never play a game for City and will wind up a nothing player as a result AND
    b. Where's loyalty in today's game? We supporters mean nothing to players only interested in themselves.

Well, I personally think he'll be loaned out this season and will figure in City's game day squad regularly next season. I think that, barring injury, he'll have a good career with 25+ full England caps. I can't resist commenting on these predictable responses, so I took the opportunity of creating an alternative to the "thanks for everything the last five years" comment he posted to FFC that has been getting such negative responses by many "supporters" of the club. Here it is:

Hi Mum, So I had this chance to do what I love for so much money, you couldn't believe it. It means that I could not only pay you back for all the time and money you spent giving me a chance to learn my trade, but also to let you live in comfort for the rest of your life. Instead, though, I decided to stay in the second tier, for second tier money so that I could be loyal to the fans … instead of you. Sorry, mum. Love, Patrick
