Obama's 'Talks-with' timelines

    "JFK talked to Soviets"

    Which time? He talked to Kruschev, during the missile crisis, of course. But also several months prior. Some historians say the talks gave big K the impetus to go ahead with the missile shipments. That he perceived JFK as 'weak'. We all know now he wasnt, but it's perception that counts, Barry!

    "Reagan talked to Soviets."

    But not Brezhnev. Brezhnev was presiding over the collapse, and looking for some victory to stay in power. Waited till he got booted and Gorbachev came in, then took he strong side.

    And, we all know how Carter talkign to Khomeini's bunch came out. Iran tweaked Carter's nose and gave him a kick in the ass by releasing the embassy captives during Reagan inauguration

    Don't be an idiot. We talked to the Russians from the beginning of the Cold War until the end. We had a hot line established in the 1960s. Beginning with Nixon we talked to Red China's leader. Both Bush pere and fils did a lot of chatting with the Chinese.

    It's stupid to try and cherry-pick on this. Bush doesn't want talking because he wants everyone to believe that there is only a military solution. Unfortunately -- for him and for his apoligists -- the military solution is just more American dead, more instability in the region, and another propaganda victory for Al Qaeda. The cost of diplomacy is cheap in comparison.

    Finally, diplomacy as a means of problem solution wont begin with the next administration. It'll just resume. It's been the way of the world since the end of the Napoleonic wars.

    Grow up and get some persepective.

    Funny how you dont seem to get the point! I outlined the points, you come back with more 'let's all be reasonable' pablum.
    But since you bring it up... we find ways to talk with these people all the time, and we are. But either it goes unnoticed or it's only used to counter-punch on the issue. As if we are all idiots.

    And WHEN are you going to answer the incovenient question.. Jaw-Jaw, THEN WHAT?

    a weaker response than usual, 'fog. You must be scrambling. Calling for something other than more reckless spending of American lives as "let's all be reasonable pablum" show's that you're farther out there on this than you are comfortable being.

    As for "the inconvenient question," we'll probably not know during this administration, since it considers talk "appeasement."
