I thoroughly enjoyed the Sounders v. New England match. Until MLS gets their shit together and puts a team in San Antonio, the Sounders are my team. 90 minutes of quick one and two-touch football with the identical twin brothers Martins and Dempsey just provide too much entertainment.

One quibble. Could it just be that I can't stand Alexi Lalas, or does EVERYBODY think his mother had him vaccinated with a phonograph needle [Pettyfog will know what I'm talking about]?

My mom used to say vaccinated with a Victrola needle, so you Fog aren't alone. The guy likes the sound of his own voice. I think he's the only one yet he continues to find work.

I used to have the MLS package but I cut it for budgetary reasons. Since I am looking at going more of the Netflix route and reducing the cable bill it may be time to jump back on board. I loved the access before since I am in the middle of no MLS markets.

I didn't catch the match, but the score certainly points to New England missing its two biggest players.

Nice weekend for USMNT members for sure. Dempsey, Jozy, Mix...

I subscribe to MLS Live as a Portland Timbers fan in Chicago. It works great. If I'm not mistaken it also works with Chromecast so you can through it up on a TV. For $70 a season it's a pretty good deal. If the Championship did the same thing I would pay twice as much to watch Fulham matches.

Honestly it almost ruined watching the match for me. I didn't realize when he made the jump from ESPN that he'd be doing color. I used to be able to just ignore him when he was doing pre-/post-match and halftime. But now I'm stuck with him for 90 minutes. Awful.

Anyway, I took the plunge and bought season tickets to the Galaxy (although I was stuck watching Friday's opener on TV).

All in all a pretty good weekend. I hope the TV ratings will finally reflect the strides the league has been making.

I agree that the league has stepped forward based on the opening performances I saw (in total only about 20+ minutes from three separate matches, so caveat). But, I've been following this league for years and it's a dramatic improvement over the ol' punt and pray days. Even the two expansion clubs showed periods of high quality - not to mention 60+K at the Citrus Bowl.

Now that you mention it. I would say the quality of play has increased quite a bit from the opening days of prior seasons. I watched all of the DC V Montreal Impact game and the quality of play was A LOT better than what I was anticipating...especially from the Impact. But it was opening day so I'm sure they were playing a bit harder than usual. We'll see, but they were certainly looking better than a last place team.

Maybe we've gotten strong enough as a league to own CONCACAF CL instead of being a Mexican doormat.

    Too soon?

I remember a few years ago at the peak of Real Salt Lake's run (3 years ago maybe), they had the second leg of the Final at home after tying away (pretty sure it was Monterrey) and lost a heartbreaker.

Had to look up what was going on with the CCL and Montreal is the lone MLS left, Club America is the only Mexican Primera team (along with 2 Costa Rican teams). Montreal (maybe someone can tell me how they qualified) is barely shaking the rust off and they have to play in the semifinal next week?? Until they change the schedule, I just can't see a MLS team win other than the occasional one off (Galaxy and DC have won it, but years ago).

After seeing what happened on opening weekend I agree. If the suits don't mess it up I think we're on our way.

It was a good opening set of matches and i caught bits and pieces of most matches and all of the Crew/ Dynamo game (if it wasnt for Deric, the Crew would have kept their opening Day streak going, last defeat on opening day since 2012) $70 dollars for Live seems a bit much, but if you only watch the team you support, it works out to a little over $2.00 a match. The key is to get it early, i got a discount for paying up early in January.

Im so happy that I am not alone with Lalas, i have never been a fan of his, especially once he started commentating. I can live with Wynalda, but if I had to have an American former player there can only be one, Brian Mcbride, and thats not sentiment talking. Kasey Keller isnt terrible either, nor Tim Howard on the few matches Ive heard him call.

Jozy's two goals didn't impress me nearly as much as him shaking off a defender doing everything to foul him a good 40 yards from a goal he had his back to. I love to see a good forward use his strength.

Really, with his size, speed, strength, and ability in the air, he could really be one of the dominant strikers in the world. I just don't know what happens to him the moment he gets to England.

What a dramatic finish for the Portland v LA game. What's amusing is my husband who is not a big soccer guy was watching it with me for a bit of the second half. He first comes in and it's 1-1. He likes to tease me on how most games are 1-1 or 0-0 and makes a sarcastic comment or two about how it's a high scoring game. Well, he leaves for the final 4 minutes or so and missed both goals from Portland and LA...sigh.

Good for Minnesota. This is one of the "grassroots" choices I can applaud as a selection.

Jesus F. Christo … . And they continue to peddle the same fish here every month or so. Screw MLS.
