petty, the ad hominem attack is without merit, and the condenscending pity....well...my point was not an attack of the current administration or trying to 'feel good' in what i think or believe.

the political rationalizing or party line trotted out at a press conference, media junket, whatever, is truly the politicians' own perogative. my post suggested questions need to be asked of political officials and transparency needs to be present in order to eviscerate the spin any politician will place upon their own actions. if the questioning of a politician's actions leads to a line of 'what else has happened' then so be it. straightforward answers to questions will eliminate, or render meaningless, fishing expeditions by third parites to uncover 'what else.'

in my opinion the big picture is the upholding of the u.s. constitution, regardless of party affiliation. despite some flaws, the constitution is still the most brilliantly crafted governing article ever crafted by humans. your big picture may very well be different than mine, which leads me to a point being debated on this thread of why immigrants come to the U.S: partly because dissent, for the most part, is not punished as a crime.

It's not condescending pity. I'm too old and dont have the patience to point out what should be the obvious.

Witness FFC24's exact duplication of the Cho article's author's attitude..

Somehow WE are responsible for Mexico not being able to support their own citizens with jobs and a possible future!!!!!! That the illegals who come in here working at sh!t jobs would rather be in Mexico.. of course they would. If they could survive that way.

Yet we get all caught up in their hardships... SELF-IMPOSED HARDSHIPS.. which they endure so as to build a better life for themselves.

Who cannot sympathize with them for that! But to tell me that somehow MY country is at fault for how Mexico is STILL a third world country beggars belief!

I persoanlly think it would have been better for the US to invade THEM instead of signing NAFTA... and instead of allowing Mexican trucks into the US just to be fair... when they typically dont meet the DOT safety standards.

I ask you... doesnt that strike you as slightly elitist? That somehow Mexicans are held in thrall by their own government and it's up to US to help them out?

Complaining that Americans are too dumb or distracted or demented to give ourselves a better government... while giving every OTHER nation/culture a pass, so as not to 'interfere'.

By the way... I was using the rhetorical 'YOU' there. And even if I werent, I denyy my reply to you was either 'ad hom' or condescending.

Unless you need milk and a cookie with that.

    Now THAT is condescending!
    ;)

Petty, both nevster and FFC24 made salient points and you ridiculed them. There's no way to sweeten that up.

When I taught politics at college and current events at high school/middle school, I taught my students that, in order for something to become "an issue," there had to be at least two points of view on it each/all with some merit.

Your problem is that you are in the talk radio/O'Reilly mode where (a) there is only one side to an issue [nice trick!] and (b) anyone who disagrees with you is patently a fool and is worthy of -- and indeed must immediately receive -- a withering attack. We all know you're a right wing true beliver, and that's okay. We enjoy engaging with you anyway; the bantering is worth it. But you need to consider -- just for a moment -- that somebody, somewhere who disagrees with you about something just might be correct. It might also be a good idea to consider that there actually exist people in the world -- some of whom may post on this site -- who might have intellects and reasoning abilities the equal of yours or, whisper this HD, superior to yours.

Now, if you do concede those last two things, then it might not hurt you to act as if you do.
