Just read Tom's article about the new signing and he seems fairly promising. A signing for the future as Tom described it.

Another move by LS to add more depth to the side. Moving in the right direction.

Correct me if I am wrong, but do either of these two have experience in the Premiership? If no, I am not sure either is the answer. We need a Premiership-experienced center back that can come in and lead the team. A player that knows the opposition, has been in the battles of this league and who can be counted on. I am not saying that the above two names can't get the job done, but I think a player who has played in the league is one who can make a quick transition rather than a slower transition from one of the imports.

Heck, at this point, I would take anyone with any kind of experience, but my preference is someone who has played in the Premiership.

Just trying to connect the dots. Seems Niemi and Hyppia's relationship is a big conisderation. If we're looking for a Finnish option, just throwing a couple of names out there.

The Bundesliga is not exactly chopped liver, but I know nothing about the Swiss league.

re-Hyppia. Why are several of us slobbering over the guy? His strength is in the air; he's slowed a bit on the turn. We don't have a history of being dominated by tall central strikers. We have, however, proven to be vulnerable against quick, pacey strikers. Hyppia is slower than our current CBs, guys.

Aside from that, he obviously does NOT want to come to Fulham. He obviously DOES want to stay at Anfield even if it means fewer than 15 starts for him this season -- with most of those in early European rounds and in the League Cup.

I don't want ANYBODY who doesn't want to wear the shirt; I don't want ANYBODY who'd rather be a reserve than a starter.

errr.... SOMETIMES the Bundesliga IS chopped liver. Meaning some teams, of course.. same as any other league.

That aside, I'm not in favor of anyone at LB who isnt quick-twitch reactive. Rather see some GK's moved to that spot than an old slow guy.

If LS lands DeMerit I am streaking down the neighborhood in my Fulham scarf.

Hope it is true, but you must consider the source. Come on LS get in there!!!

Latest news from my Sunday papers is that Bouzza (sp?) is coming to us from Watford for 3.5m and Demerit could also be on his way in...hmmm....two birds with two stones.

I think that Demerit can come in and start right away. He was good for Watford and he has been good for the US when he has the chance. He is in the prime of his career and is a solid player.

I do not like what it said about Bouazza though. He was rubbish with Watford and adds nothing, but depth on the left wing.

I wouldn't say Bouazza is rubbish. He didn't set the prem a blaze by any means, but Watford lacked any attacking threat once King went down with an injury. If there were a healthy King available then Bouazza could provide service to a viable attacking option. Instead of every chance being squandered.

That being said, he possesses the physical ability to flourish in the prem. Pobably not the on the ball talent we would like.

DeMerit would be the best part of the deal IMO. If Fulham could bag both of them for 3.5 then that is a job well done again by LS.

Bouazza wasn't rubbish for Watford. He was their lone star against Man U in the FA Cup. He can play and he's left footed. And he's a bit versatile in that he can play out left and up front.

DeMerit would be interesting. I think he's solid, but not an absolute stud. He's not very tall either.

Gotta agree with Lyle here. Bouazza was one of the only highlights for Watford after King got injured and was a great winger for some of their final matches.

I think I'm gonna like this guy -- of course, he IS a left-winger!

    http://qprreport.blogspot.com/2007/08/l ... talks.html

Regarding the Jay DeMerit rumors, the kid is a stud and is a Prem player, but I'd be really surprised if Aidy wanted to let him go OR the Cheesehead demanded a transfer. I think Boothroyd sees him as the future captain and leader of a resurgent Watford EPL side, and I think Jay respects his boss's ambitions and appreciates Aidy's campaigning to get DeMerit in the USMNT. So, I don't think it's gonna happen.

Agree with Don. DeMerit hasn't climbed the ladder at any cost. He has done it the right way so far, and I have to think he would not leave without a partial blessing from Aidy.

I like Gary O'Neil, but I am not sure we need another midfielder, particularly one we have to pay 5 million pounds for. If we have 5 million pounds to spend, let's get a good center back or two in here and solidify the defense.

My thoughts exactly, Tom. There's already a log-jam in midfield. BTW, from the BBC transfer page: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 932622.stm

While I understand the need for squad depth, If we just keep adding more mediocre players, we're going to stay mediocre.
