I tend to agree with you. We got off the line well last year but in the later half of the season I think we showed our true form (really bad). We will need some quality signings this month to change this forecast. Certainly with the current squad were set to go down. Nemi and McBride perhaps our two best players have only gotten older.

Hughes will be a good signing, but it will take more than one utility player to shore up our ragged defense. We NEED some serious heavy signings to bring us up to par. I don't have much confidence that will occur.

Perhaps our best hope is for one of; Runstrom, Omuzi, Timilin, Zukani, Batistia, or even John; to step up big. But I not sure how likely that is. Something must happen, the current status quo will see us relegated.

Fingers crossed that I'm wrong but my head tells me otherwise.

Fantastic point of the younger players in the squad stepping up and earning a place in the side. Runstrom could be dangerous and could help in attack, John needs to regain his form and if LS utilizes Dempsey correctly then the attack will be vastly improved.

Again Defense needs some help desperately... Zukani and Omosuzi are young and talented, but not too sure if they are ready to be blooded. Timlin has faced some tough injuries in the past and looks poised to earn his place in the side...great that he has experience on the left wing as well.

Kapo also has a fair bit of size at 6'2" to go along with a quality left foot. Glad to see Fulham is in for him.

    Davies for 4mil???

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story ... 69&cc=5901
That he was Villa's player of the year is promising. 4 million is a lot of money, you have to wonder how much would be left in the kitty for a DEFENDER. Its a risk move, as the front and back lines both need more immediate attention, but it could pay off.

My memory of Davies is vague. Can someone enlighten me? Do we think he'd be an upgrade from Smertin, Brown, Simon Davies, ect. Or on par with those. Is he a defensive mid? Fast? Slow? Crafty?

    RE: Davies for 4mil???

IMO he is better than all the above, plus he has youth on his side. He isn't a thug midfield player like Brown, but he has a physical side to his game. Out of all the NI players he probably shows the most promise... He stays composed on the ball, great work rate and links well with teammates. Not really a goal scorer, but can put a decent shot on goal. O'Neill, like LS, has just chosen to bring in familiar players to fill his side and fortunately for Fulham Davis has fallen out with Villa.

To top it off his recent accolades...
*Aston Villa Player Of The Season (2005/2006)
*Aston Villa Young Player Of The Season (2005/2006)
*Aston Villa Fans Player Of The Season (2005/2006)

You lot should realise that Kapo would be our best signing all transfer period. If he ever even came close to realising his potential he would be absolute class and playing for France. He has underachieved, but he showed some good things at levante and did alright on loan spells to Monaco. He was signed by Juventus and never really worked out and his best position is in the creative winger or attacking midfield role.

Well put Mike, the scare mongering and doom and gloomers has already started and the season hasn't began.

Nice quote from jimmy Greaves "It's a funny ol' game'

Kapo for 2 million quid is a steal, but not sure if Fulham will be able to seal the deal. He is a class player who, in the past, as you said has trouble with living up to expectations. I believe Dempsey fits the creative midfielder mold and Kapo would be a good addition. Attack would be more fluent going forward, but my concern is with him tracking back to defend.

I agree with this. Steven Davis is, by far, the most promising of all the Northern Ireland players.

Jonny Evans is another promising player who is a CB. If we are going after Northern Ireland players then Evans must be on our list of targets.

I think you guys need to understand something about my so-called "doom and gloom" arguments.

THE LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS ARE FOR THE TEAM THE HAPPIER YOU WILL BE WHEN THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL!!!

I am not going to be dissapointed when they lose this season, because they're going to lose. If they get thrashed and play like crap I'll hate it, but just losing won't affect me. I just think people shouldn't have high expectations for this years' Fulham team.

I also can't stand delusions of grandeur or false positiveness. I don't believe in faking it through life.

I forgot about him. He looks to be playing for Man U this year though. And if he goes anywhere it'll be back to Sundreland and Roy Keane.

And I meant Roy Carroll in the earlier thread. Started to write Andy Carroll. Says a lot about Northern Ireland players though.

A bit more optimism is needed...don't want Mike referring to you as a "negative nancy" all season do you?

If we suck, we suck and I'm going to say it. Doesn't mean on Saturday or Sunday morning I'm not hoping for victory.

The less you expect from this team, the more special success will be.

I guess what set me off was fans at the Fulham site who expect and want a top 10 finish year in and year out. There's no way anybody should be expecting that this year. We could end up with the right box of chocolates, but I'm not expecting it.

Lyle...just a suggestion, but to constantly expect the worst and occasionally being surprised by a positive is more than just a glass half empty approach...it is downright self destructive. I mean what joy do you really have in supporting the club with that approach?

I'm going to be optimistic for the season and the players that will be signed. If the majority of those players we've been rumoured to sign actually come in the side will be vastly improved. Not saying top ten is a certainty, but there are crazy things that could happen.

Chin up Lyle...you are supporting the best club in London afterall.
