The only information that I've found on Didier Digard states that he is a 20 year old French defender/midfielder, he can play in the CB or CDM. At present, he plays for Le Havre AC. Apparently the rumoured price for Digard is 1.5 million and Aston Villa, Reading and Fulham all seem to be in for him.

You mean The Sun was right after all? Go figure.

I like how they've got him wearing a Fulham/Nike-branded polo and holding a Fulham/Nike branded jersey. I guess the Fulham/Nike-branded jeans haven't yet arrived in the club shop or he'd be wearing those too. :D

Finally, an actual signing to report! Welcome to the club, Mr. Hughes. Now, go grab your NI mates and bring 'em in with you.

For £1 million and plenty of International experience, I think we've got ourselves quite a bargain. Good on Lawrie for pulling this off, hopefully this is only the beginning!

Finally! May the floodgates be opening. The more guys we can get in before camp starts, the better. We'll need some serious familiarity and rhythm in order to start out the season strong.

Can't get over the fact that we opened bottom of the table last year due to the terrible ManU loss, and I would really love to see us come out with a more solid position.

    Keep em coming!

Great signing at a great price!! I hope Hughes is able to stay healthy and provide the leadership skills he has displayed with Northern Ireland to a lackluster Fulham defense.

On a side note, if and when Fulham does land Diomansy Kamara, I just realized he is Leandro Barbosa's identical twin. Does anyone else see the similarities in the two?

Hope that LS has Hughes in mind for CB.

Barbosa's lost twin? Hmmmm; Wonder if Diomansy can clean the glass as well?

thread boycott over, now that we've signed somebody! Yah -- bleedin -- hoo!

Our long national nightmare is over--we have a signing! And, while he may not be the best defender in the world, he's a defender (and it won't take an all-star to beat the crew we had last year.)

Well, I'll be damned, a signing AND a defenseman (I capitalized "AND" in Petty's honor).

Hughes is here, baby, signed, sealed, delivered, he's ours!

Fantastic...first signing and more to come. Well done LS, now how many more NI players will be on their way?

News from Irbox...DaMarcus Beasley has just signed a three year contract with Glasgow Rangers. Unfortunate he didn't catch on anywhere else, but he should be a first team regular and get use to the British/Scotish style of play.

    Best of luck Bease

Decent signing and that was a damn good bargain. He will bring leadership and experience at the highest level and he is also young. He will help our defense out alot and I think that with this signing and Sanchez as our manager our defense will be much improved.

The strikers mentioned are both quality and will score and create chances. Both players can get by the defense with pace and skill which is something we really do not have.

If Fulham can get 3-4 bargains like Hughes and then make a couple of medium sized splashes like Kamara, a top 10 finish COULD be possible. Who woulda thunk.

Off season optimism is one of the best parts of being a sports fan.

No way. Hate to be the pessimist, but Fulham isn't bringing in "Top Ten" talent. Aaron Hughes is just a warm body. Crikey, Aston Villa who will probably be a Top Ten side let him go. And we're going after Kamara, who may be good, but he just played in the Championship for a team that didn't get promoted.

Lets not go bonkers over the fact we just brought in Aaron Hughes. I just hope his knee problem is gone so he can compete for playing time.

I dare say get a bit more depth at CB, another striker or two, and a couple of solid role players, and this team could be Top 10. It's only a 10 point differential from banging on the door to top 10.

If we are to sign a Left winger then I would like Olivier Kapo to be considered. The asking price is not much and he has lots of skill and is a player who play on the left side of midfield. He has underachieved, but I think he can still be a good player.

I don't believe Hughes is just "a warm body". He has some quality to him and just, because he has fallen out of favor with a certain club doesn't imply that he isn't worth signing. Eto'o fell out of favor with his side, but I doubt you would find a club in the world who doesn't want his services. A more extreme example, but it goes on to prove the point.

Kamara, Baird, Cook and a host of others have a fair amount of quality and would definitely improve the side. They may not be household names, but big name signings doesn't guarantee results.
