as I pointed out in another thread, there was a ton of interest in him last summer, but MLS considered his transfer "detrimental to the growth of the MLS."

I hope he hasn't lost his shot over the water, because I think that he's the most talented experienced player in the league since Dempsey left.

As for his age, Macca was around that age when he made the trip as I remember.

that's funny. hopefully the person who changed it did so to make Ives look like a fool, assuming that Ives is that writer for ESPN.

I have heard, from a very, very good source that Fulham are targeting two positions this January as a priority:

    1) Right Back
    2) Centerback

In that order. Take it as you will.

And all the idiots on the Offal will be clamoring for another Striker!

That, and Sanchez OUT. (Which already appears to be a regular refrain.)

That being said, does this mean the end of Baird?

I only saw the last 20 minutes of the match on Sunday. Was the backline bad again? I saw our nice litte combination play for the goal by Kamara. We need to stop these collapses in the last 10 minutes. IMO, we need more possession in midfield for the last 15 minutes when we have the lead. I still want a RB too. CB's...wouldn't hurt to have another one for some competition, but I think our guys have done a decent job there.

our defense is fine. Our biggest needs are:

    1. a holding midfielder
    2. a creative central midfielder

we've got two of the latter on the books now -- Dempsey and Bullard -- but Smertin is the closest we have to #1 and he's in LS's dog house.

If Bullard is effective when he comes back, I think he and Davis can be a great pairing in central midfield.

Is Smertin in the doghouse? Or is he just not playing because of Murphy?

I figured dog house because he's not injured and he's not even a sub.

And Murphy needs to sit. I don't mind him as a sub, but he slows down our very slow midfield.

Yeah, I have no idea... but I just don't see Smertin as the kind of guy to be difficult. Maybe he is though.

Smertin played in the last reserve match so he's not injured. I agree he should be the starter...Murphy can sub on later in the game. If Bullard comes back to what he was before the injury, then they're both on the bench.
