    Here

is where the Admin gets richly deserved criticism. In fact, the obstruction FEMA presented to the first responses.

Michelle Malkin will not be alone in calling for Michael Brown's head and the whole consolidation with DHS needs to be reviewed.

HOWEVER... it is well known and always has been that locals must allow 3 to 4 days for full response by fema.

The scenarios always call for that. It was not done.. Like I say, plenty of blame to pass around.

Know everyone else outside of the Department is realizing why Ridge got out a while ago.

The story doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Why would they block responders from entering the parrish? And why would they cut the communication lines? The local officals started letting citizens back in yesterday to survey their property damage and get out, so it doesn't seem like that parrish is in bad a shape as New Orleans. So what was the line of reasoning that FEMA used, and do they have the authority to block private responders? Does anyone know?

    Read CNN: Nagin et al
    - And CNN are not exactly Bush cheerleaders

This is exactly what I said to look for. Nagin is starting to calm down a little now that things are being done and the facts are coming out

I believe that, ultimately, he's going to admit his mistakes. Blanco however is in the hotseat... Nagin's remarks echo exactly what FEMA and the Guard Commanders had said.

When Blanco got her 24 hours, who is it you think she consulted.. since it was a decision to give over to Federal Authority?

You're damn right.. it was her POLITICAL ADVISORS!

Heather: It's typical Federal Bureaucratese... everything is mapped out and they go by the playbook instead of using common sense.

Perhaps thsi is WHY the Fed doesnt want to get involved until the locals have the situation somewhat stabilized?

And why it's smart for locals to have things ready for 2-4 days.

This Fed /local arguement detracts from the point that between them both.
They completely screwed this whole operation.
They also exposed Americas dark belly to the whole world.
Tourists are simply told avoid this area or that area which they do.
Unaware of the massive (mainly black) underclass that exists.
It was truely shocking to discover the US has so many surpressed impoverished people living in their cities.

Anthony...if you use strong phrases like "suppressed, improvished people," please back up your statements. How is their government suppressing them?

P.S. Sorry, to get off the Katrina topic.

I wonder... if Anthony, the expert on the American social system.. has even been here?

And NY, LA or even DC is NOT 'here'!

Meantime those of us in America who READ , then digest what we see in the European news, smugly smile when we know what is coming to unravel Euro-superiority.

No- sir! When the thin veneer wears off the phony Kum-bay-ah of the Guardian and Paris-Match elitist wedding cake, America will still be american.

And that, despite the efforts of those in the Race-biz to replicate Euro-elitism, thus hold in perpetuity, a class based system in which the well-educated (meaning went to the right schools and remained dumb as planks) know 'what is best for the 'underclass'' unfortunates!

    - -- - - - -
    Now on the lighterside...

Sean Penn though, un-encumbered by various bureacratic processes, replicated a scene out of the typical "City Hick goes to nature" movie when he launched his own rescue effort.
But as any 'Buford-Billy-Bob' knows, the last thing you do BEFORE launching your boat is to see that it starts, and that the bilge drain plug is in.

Didnt, wasnt, wouldnt... thus he gets his kharma fulfilled.

He should stick to writing.. room for a valet and a PA there around the old word processor..

    That is true

Bush uses the media for his disaster photo ops. Penn should have realized he could have saved some money on the photographer. Fox would have rushed to see him sinking in his little boat.

I have been to New York and Florida.
I liked both but understand they would probably not give me much insight into America as a whole.
One thing I noticed at the two waterparks I visited was that the Life Guards were (without exception) White and the burger flippers and toilet attendants were (without exception )black.
In England I read The Sun, The Times, Heat Magazine and The NME.
I am in no way anti American but am Anti War and Anti Bush.
He is viewed as a Texas Hick by all non American educated folks, except his poodle Blair.

Excellent news...my Coastie friends are safe. The person I used to with only lost his car and flood waters only crept up to his house. But there is no major damage. And his family was safe in NC.

Anthony... you will gain NOTHING from reading the Sun! At least, once in a while, peruse the Telegraph Opinions if nothing else.

Bush is by far the least articulate President we've had in my 60+ lifetime (listening to his speeches makes my jaw ache and teeth hurt)... but he is far from unintelligent.

That the lifeguards were white and the cleaning crew, black.. points more to the failure of the left-ish school system to encourage achievement than anything else.

They are disadvantaged, dontcha know.. and need to avoid anything that will challenge their self esteem. To that end, the Florida school system are attempting to institute non-critical grading... where the big part of the grade report is on attendance and how you get along with the class.. never mind what you learn.

Add to that "Gangsta Culture" and more are ruined... being a lifeguard just AINT cool.
Which is why, in any state or city it is available, black parents opt out of the local schools and get vouchers to send their kids to private or Catholic schools.

I know I gain nothing from The Sun I find it a quick entertaining read. My point was I do not obtain any semi/socialist opinions from the left wing English press as I don't read it.
A lot of non Americans were surprised at the scenes of the Poor Blacks in NO
Years ago we were fed stories of Crack Junkies and no go areas but in recent times we have heard more about safe streets and Zero tolerance.
It is now evident these problems were not eradicated but swept under the carpet. Hidden away in dark unsafe corners of American cities.
