January 2009 Transfer thread

We did sell Lee Cook, but thats only because QPR are so massive and also richer than Man City. They can afford to buy all of the great players.

We don't need much - backups and maybe a CF. We aren't likely to find an affordable upgrade over Zamora in the transfer window, so if we do have money to spend, it makes sense to look at young players with upside. It feels nice to be linked with players like Delph, Watson, etc - seems like these types usually get snapped up by Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs.

The fact that the Premier League table is so bunched together might have something to do with the lack of moves too. Everybody feels that they're ok with what they have, so why buy just for the sake of buying?

Moving Bullard for $5M to Hull would be preposterous.

Big, big, big mistake IMO. He's under contract for another year.....why not wait until the summer at the least??? The team is playing well this season, why break up the chemistry? Not a good move. I'm very upset.

 

A falling out? A backroom deal? I dont know - it doesnt seem enough... Maybe Fulham know something about Jimmy that we dont injury wise.

 

5 million... really? Please tell me that Geovanni is coming our way.

 

He still has to agree to a contract with Hull. Considering he only left Wigan because he wanted to live in London, that's not a sure thing.

If this happens, I'd say that Fabian Delph is almost a sure thing.

I did not mean to use "sure thing" twice in this post. I'm sure of that.

 

If true, I'd be rather disappointed by both the destination and the fee.

 

Is it possible this is a mind game?

The club says - "Ok - you want to go? That is fine - go to Hull."

Jimmy doesnt want to go there so he has to turn up and say to the club, "I would like to stay here please."

 

if the Wink chooses Hull over us good riddance! Now I wish the fee were a lot more than 5 million and if he chooses to stay I will continue to love the guy.

Jensers, I think it is quite possible it is a mind game. This would disrupt the settled side Roy seems to prefer, so this may be the ultimate game of chicken.

 

Colin, pretty good stuff. I remember reading their board before the Stoke game. Some crusty old timers on their board, always entertaining.

 

Given he (Roy) was at Leeds on Saturday, I think if this story is a real attempt to unload Bully, which I'm still not sure it is at this point, they must be ready to pull the trigger on the lad. Question is, is he ready now or is he sometime in the future? Don? Anyone? Buehler?
