You, in favor of price controls? Isn't that like...socialism :wow:

Aren't outrageous text, cell charges simply a product of too little competition? Cell bills are higher in Canada than the US for this reason I believe.

Spence, I think you missed my point.

Texting is the cheapest to transport form of messaging there is. It takes up almost no bandwidth in a properly designed system and yet costs the user the most for information conveyed. That;s why I said I was torn because even if you paid $10 per month for 1000 messages it's still high profit.

That is why I said texting helps pay my non-texter bill and why I refuse to use it. Free market works.. if some idjits want to pay over a dollar a page, so be it.

Sooner or later, though.. the dam will break.

You do seem to have endorsed the EU's use of a price control here though, no? Extremely profitable service or not, that seems not a typical pettyfog stance.

I used to resist texting but at a certain point it became a useless battle. In many cases when someone texts you it would be considered rude not to reply at all and overzealous to respond with a call.

I don't know; I've managed to ignore texts sent to me. In the case of numerous texts by the same person, I tell them "I don't text, and if you want to communicate with me, you'll have to actually call." So far this hasn't cost me any friends -- nor has my insistence upon not joining the cult known as "Facebook" despite the fact that I get 5-10 invitations a week to do so.

Of course, Spencer, we are of different generations.

Oh, I get it. You glommed on 'Great News'! That's a device used on several conservative blogs as ironic or sarcastic humor. Usually means either not 'Great' and sometimes not really news.

Frankly I dont give a crap, it doesnt affect me. And I'm not in favor of long term market fix as this obviously is. Problem being, of course that the lemmings keep using texting and dont seem to have a clue how much they are paying.
