4-0 loss in the Milan derby. I think it's time for Gooch to come in and right the ship.

Also, Gattuso's challenge for his 2nd red was absurd. Based on what I've seen of him for Milan and Italy, he may be my least favorite player on the planet. I add him to the list of athletes that need to a good hard punch in the face along with Kevin Youkilis, Jay Cutler, and Sean Avery

I was thinking the same thing. There are so many holes in AC's defense -- not that I'm crying for them, Argentina -- and it seems like they could use a strong, resolute young man. Time to turn to Gooch.

So glad to see Gooch wasn't involved in that ass-whooping. He was thrown into a mess at Newcastle and we saw how that turned out (never given the chance to settle in). More results like this and the rookie coach will be looking for his second job post haste.

Have to agree with BostonCottage about Gattuso, the guy is a total prick. He's the guy who'll cheap shot you whenever possible, then pick you up, pat you on the cheek to show the ref. he's a sportsman.

It's starting to look like another Newcastle situation that Gooch has found himself in, isn't it? Milan has tons of talent, but Leonardo might be in over his head (he hadn't completed his UEFA coaching badges when he was appointed in May, but was exempted because he won the World Cup as a player - doesn't that sound like the Italian equivalent of big clubs in England having more pull to get a work permit for a player?). It doesn't help that they're using their third-string GK due to injuries either, I guess.

Has he got any sort of minutes yet? :?:

He should have gone to Ajax Amsterdam.

    No minutes yet.

I've previously advocated faith, and I'm sticking with it...but if November rolls around and he's still languishing on the pine, then it's time to talk loan deal...obviously, that's in the USMNT interests. Sitting on the bench at the San Siro and earning gobs of cash are most likely Gooch's primary interests at this moment.

Leonardo's neck is on the chopping block, or if not yet, it's headed that way, and thus, he's not turning to "inexperience" in the form of Gooch, even if all other factors support the conclusion that he is a better player than Kaldahze. I have a gut feeling it's only a matter of time until he receives his chances.

Or, maybe he can get a loan back to Liege...or Newcastle.

Gooch needs to be slapping his agent's face. There were plenty of sides in plenty of leagues that were interested in acquiring Gooch to improve their defenses. This is a veteran international with loads of UEFA Cup & ECL experience, and a buttload of skill.

It seems to me that Milan was interested in Good primarily because of their USA summer tour, and in hopes of increasing their branding. Gooch's agent fell for it -- the same "big club" attraction that got him to Newcastle. Gooch's transfer to AC and his subsequent inactivity is the single greatest threat to the USA getting out of the group stages in South Africa.

Umm... I would say the single greatest threat to the US getting out of the group stages is they're not that good of a team. I hope I am wrong but they don't seem organized enough going forward.

I hope Gooch gets some opportunities soon, I really want the US team to do well. And him sitting on the bench does not help at all!

The timing was poor. If Gooch makes this move in the Fall of '10, it's a good move regardless. With the WC looming, riding pine for 4 months is a setback.

Now if the time spent training with the club gets him into the side by the transfer window and he starts for ACM throughout the Spring, the losses will be offset. But if that looks unlikely, he needs to get out of there in January.

Snooped around and the consensus from the AC fans is that this was strictly a financial move from the club. To them, he is there 3rd/4th choice CB w/no chance of starting unless injury, and since he was bought on the free, he will be sold for a profit. Hope they're wrong, but doubt it.

The defense really isn't the problem. Their attack is fucking rubbish though which is why they get bad draws against Bari. He's going to continue riding the bench as AC don't have to plaay Inter for awhile so they don't need to worry about conceding 4 goals again haha!

I think Gooch would help AC Milan's attack.

    - height and ability for corners and set-pieces
    - long throw

Well he only scores about 1 goal every 10 games which is pretty much the same as most defenders on Milan. He probably won't get in that way either. He's going to have to hope that the defense starts sucking or Nesta gets injured. Nesta is 33 and Kaladze is getting up there too. Thiago Silva is alright, but nothing special so he can overtake him too.

Also, have we ever seen his long throw? I think I remember a couple of desperation throws a long time ago for the US, but I'm not sure.

On the bench, but not playing again today. At least he has a good seat for the action, so he's got that goin' for him, which is nice.

thank goodness, I was hoping we would have to wait for the Coppa Italia for him to get minutes.

To add to the good news, Kaladze got a yellow in the game, making an eventual start by Gooch in the group stages more likely.

Nesta getting hurt is the reason Gooch got in. Sounds like he might get a chance, but he has ZERO margin for error. The natives are restless and their knives are sharp for the coach's head and underperforming players scalps as well. Gooch almost has 2 1/2 strikes instead of just 2.

Based on Ives review, Gooch had a solid game and didn't put a foot wrong. Interesting stat is that for the 30 minutes he was on, he was fouled 4 times and committed 0 fouls.
