Given the more appealing potential destinations that have been rumored, it would be perplexing if Gooch chose to go play in Russia. Of course, if Roman Abramovich got Jaromir Jagr to go play in Siberia by giving him a big pile of cash, I guess it could happen to Gooch too.

Never mind the beard, Barry; when did our defensive destroyer become a striker? Neither of his goals was from a set piece, both were in the run of play and he was leading the line -- quite well also.

The 2nd Gooch goal was essentially a set piece.

I thought the second came off a free kick situation. Perhaps I was so distracted by the beard I noticed nothing else.

Don't know if anyone else remembers, but we had one of Gooch's coaches from Clemson on here for a short time. And he was the first to point out the big man's offensive prowess, saying he used to score regularly when pushing those college jocks around.

That is some seriously good marking. No wonder no one ever picks up strikers from the Belgian League...their goal #'s are skewed

I noticed that too -- geez, the defenders look like me. Although the second goal would have been tough to mark in any event -- you try marking a 6'5" guy on a header.

Congrats to Gooch, now for God's sake drag a razor across your face.

With one game left in the Belgian league calendar, Standard are tied with Anderlecht for the league lead in points, but are behind on both goal differential and goals scored. Next weekend Standard play at third-place Gent while Anderlecht play at eighth-place Genk. Either way Standard qualify for the Champions League next year, but they enter earlier in the competition if they come in second.

    How cool is that.

If it gets serious, I'll start reading the offal again to see how those yahoo's triangulate that against their earlier opinions, now that roy is some kind'a saint and all.

Looking over at yanks-abroad (sorry linkily challenged) Gooch has shown great maturity for not strangling some cretin named Van Damme, who racially slurred him several times. Liege is tied going into the second leg, so hopefully justice will prevail and Gooch and teammates can hoist the trophy after the next 90 minutes.

In a fight between Gooch and a whole lot of people, I'm taking the Gooch. Even his nickname is scary.
