I think that would be a good move for Gooch.

Marseille arereportedly offering $6.5million and BMG only $4million so hopefully Gooch will end up at the former; I'd rather he not be on a team in danger of relegation. I doubt anyone will pay more than $6.5.

    Go Gooch!

Showing up well today against Sampdoria. Standard are holding them at 3-0, and Gooch has one of the goals.

Good on the lad. Hope he kicks some serious ass in the French league.

The Belgian league is about halfway between the Dutch and Danish leagues in terms of competition. The French league is just slightly behind the German, English, Italian, and Spanish leagues. I believe Petty and others will tell you that it is equal to those four.

Standard may be almost as good as Marseille, but the league competition is not anywhere as good. And Standard will be getting poorer; their two main attackers are also probably going in January.

Mo, in my opinion Ligue 1 is an improvement over the Belgian Gin League and Marseille is a perennial Champions League participant (but usually falling back into the UEFA Cup, like this year.)

Granted Liege has a good club right now, but Marseille is a big step up for Gooch. Now, let's hope he gets PT.

Is Gooch cup-tied for the CL? I can't remember whether Liege qualified this year.

Yes, Josh ... for BOTH the CL and the UC. Remember his two brilliant matches against Liverpool this year?

Good for Gooch. Hopefully he will thrive in France.

I'll smile and grin at the change all around...

    Or lack thereof.

Liege now says Gooch won't be moving in January. Regardless, he'll continue to be a monster in the UEFA Cup and the Juniper Gin League and leave on a free this summer.

Ohhhhhhh. Juniper. I saw someone say "gin league" and though "Jupiler makes beer, not gin, I wonder what they meant." Now I get it. :D

I guess if Standard thinks keeping Gooch is the difference between making the CL next year and not doing so, the potential gain from CL revenue would be greater than the potential loss from losing him on a free transfer rather than getting a fee in January. If you think you can sell Mbokani or Witsel or Defour for a big pile of cash (one rumor I saw said 20 million Euros for Mbokani!) you've gotta do it, but if you're looking at $4M for Gooch (which I think is like 2.5M Euros) it might be worth it to play it out until the summer.

Well, the transfer period hasn't begun yet. I think that's Standard saying, "sorry guys; not enough money."

UEFA Cup, in its last season I think, would not be as much fun to follow without him. Good. For now.
