Sorry to hear about Bob Casale.

Going back in the time machine for a great song from an equally great movie. For those who have never seen Michael Mann's "Manhunter', do so, a great thriller from the 80's that introduced film goers to Hannibal Lecter (Brian Cox is riveting and you'll have a hard time thinking Anthony Hopkins owns that role. You see him briefly at around the 3:45 mark). They did a remake of Manhunter 10-12 years ago that pales in comparison called Red Dragon.

Chelsea, is a class beyond, but far too many times the S'hamptons and Palaces of the league have been as well. Didn't expect a win, but seeing Dejagah break into a position to cross with Bent and Dempsey in the box clear...and he kicks it away with his left foot - season in a nutshell. Just an example, there's plenty of blame to go around.

Usually when actors dabble in music, Bruce WIllis, Billy Bob Thorton, Eddie Murphy embarrass themselves. Sometimes a Kevin Bacon or Keanu Reaves can be taken seriously, but never rise above playing small clubs. Watching the Oscars last night,Jared Leto won best supporting actor for Dallas Buyers Club (great movie and he's brilliant in it), but didn't realize he was in a band also until his acceptance speech. One of my 19 year old's favorite bands, 30 Seconds to Mars, Leto's side project has actually made him a rock star, selling out arenas and music halls around the world.
    The title of the song is appropriate at this point of the season;

Caught a few minutes of the Arsenal-Bayern Munich CL match and heard a chant from the Bayern fans to a song that I couldn't place. Finally figured it out and had a laugh. It was to the chorus of 'We're Not Going to Take It' by Twisted Sister (At least isn't wasn't The Hoff  )

Neidermeyer from Animal House being reprised is the best part 'Is that a pledge pin on your uniform!?'

Nice wardrobe Don. Of course you didnt write that song; things are way different in your castle.

Unfortunately, this song happens to be apropos of too much these days. I loved John Denver. Sad that because he wasnt cool enough, he doesnt have the place in music industry history that has talent and popularity warranted.

I cant play a lick... but I have a good ear, Don should remember I was among the first to give him props when he first 'came out' on here. Never mind who wrote it, he plays it GOOD.
I LIKED Denver's stuff.. but In My Opinion, John Denver DOES 'have the place in music industry history that has talent and popularity warranted.[/b] ' Eg; I also grooved to BeeGees and Airsupply. And I liked Captain and Tennile. I also didnt squawk against jokes about them.

Here's a mind game: Find separate gatherings of Springsteen and Bob Seger fans. Tell them what you think about Denver and imagine their responses as groups. Which do you think are most likely to agree with you? Seger fans value technical quality and subtlety over the Jersey Pop sound. OTOH, I have it on authority that Snooki prefers the Boss hands-down.

    The Strato is SIXTY!!!!
Lots of telling anecdotes but by no means inclusive.. I read elsewhere {cant find it now} that Dylan fans booed when he first appeared playing one. Which affirms my opinion of early Dylan fans, then and now.

    Stratocaster + Clapton > Layla

And amusingly without even mentioning the icon, we have this:
Nation Demands More Mind-Blowing Guitar Solos

And no... I dont want to hear about the Les Paul it was a star in its own right.
Thing is {besides Les hisself} Bill Haley and Link Wray played Les Pauls. Get my drift there, Bunky

Along with the Hammond B.. all my good music vibes seem to coincide with Stratocaster riffs. Who gives a crap who made the drum set.

I never quite got the Strat. Now the TELECASTER -- that's a sweet machine. I picked one up a few months ago just to be able to play it when I've been an especially good boy.

good link, 'fog. For me, it's all about how the instrument feels in my hands. I got one with the maple neck -- easily the best choice with a Tele. I do NOT shred. The Tele is wonderful for passing chords and basic blues runs. It can also handle pretty much every lead imaginable, but I can't play any of those worth a crap.

synergy alert: I'm typing this after choir practice. We're watching NCIS on DVR and the opening scene includes an exploding
62 Telecaster. Certainly they could have killed the guy with an exploding Lawrence Welk album!

Speaking of guitars...32 years ago today, Randy Rhodes died in a plane crash as it was buzzing the tour bus of lead singer Ozzy Osbourne. A song that then was regarded as the work of a devil worshiper/psychopath can today be heard at any sports stadium/arena during timeouts. The guitar rift by Rhodes in this song made Ozzy a superstar:

**Where else you going to hear John Denver and Ozzy Osbourne tunes in relative succession?

I have no idea, but it is sweet. Mix in some debates over telecasters, strats, les pauls, hammonds and it all falls into line. Why no mention of the immortal SG or Gibson Hollow Body? Love me some hollow body sound.
