You're kind of all missing the obvious. We lost because the guys who came off Citeh's bench delivered the kind of football the guys who came off Fulham's bench couldn't handle. Once football went from 1 sub -- who was usually not used -- to the number they have now, the deeper clubs started turning league tables into mini-leagues. 11 against 11, we were holding our own. But Navas and Milner are good enough to start for 95% of the top flight clubs in the world, and the same can't be said for our subs.

Once we're playing teams like Norwich, West Ham, etc., I expect us to take them down. I was very pleased with how we played today, and I have a lot of time for what Rene is doing with our depleted and dispirited squad. Better days are coming, and they're coming soon. Whether they'll come soon enough is another question, but I'd rather we fought for every point with good football than play the dire crap that Jol served up over the last 12 or 13 months.

And yet somehow Cardiff, Hull, Stoke, Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland and Southampton all managed to hold them to 2 goals or fewer. I'm not arguing the point that we can't/won't do better against the teams in the bottom half of the league, just that our defensive issues raise concern and may carry over.

Agreed 100%. I mentioned this on twitter earlier, but today's game is like when the likes of Alabama play the likes of Chattanooga in college football: it's an exhibition. Except Fulham doesn't get a payday.

Sure, on occasion there'll be an upset. But that's more due to probability than norm.

Look, there's always been a discrepancy in terms of talent between haves and have-not. But this isn't funny anymore and hasn't been for awhile now. Their 4 goal scorers alone accounted for our entire team budget; and we're not exactly Little Sisters of the Poor. I'm quite of the mind that teams like City and Chelsea and Barca and etc etc should just go form some super league and leave clubs like us an opportunity to compete in an actual competition that isn't a zerosum game of bankruptcy (oh hi there Brum, Pompey; and soon to be QPR, Cardiff...). Sure, it'll change the face of domestic leagues; but the status quo is killing majority of domestic leagues anyway.

(Oh, sorry with my tangential rant that you can easily nuance the point away.)

I was proud of the effort and am very interested in the match at Norwich at Boxing Day. Huuuge.
