Well, how much we FulhAmericans are going to be able to enjoy the arrival of spring will have a lot to do with how the lads in SW6 do for the 7 days beginning Wednesday, March 4. While there will be match threads for Saturday's FA Cup tie against United, and another for next Wednesday's match against Blackburn, let's deal with the arrival of top-flight new boys Hull.

Hull have come back to their senses after spending the first three months of the season sniffing the rarified air of the top half, but they're still a force to be reckoned with. Everything counts on our ability to boss the midfield and keep Geovanni pouting. Three points here will go a long way towards making Roy look less like he's auditioning for a digel commercial, so I'm thinking we get our best lineup out there. That is ...

First game of the year: "Oh boy, here we go again...." Now, 6 months later, if the same squad shows up for this match that was at the Emirates over the weekend, Hull's only hope is to not get boat-raced.

Could be major fulhamish territory here, but after Hull gifted Blackburn I like our chances.

Match is re-aired at 6:30pm on Setanta, but cant watch because of city council meeting. Drab.

I like our chances to put 3 on the score board as well. I'm going with 3-0...another clean sheet for our big Aussie.

I won't be in the chat room Wednesday as my wife has a doctor's appointment, which will cause me to miss much of the first half. Since I can't listen to the first half, I'll just wait until 6:30 pm and watch it on Setanta. I'm always tempted to read spoilers though.

My initial thought was 3-1 but this is one of those matchups where I could see it being a bit tighter. I'll go with 2-1 Fulham.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has started to dream of Europe now the Cottagers have begun to establish themselves as a top 10 outfit.
A side that avoided relegation by the slenderest of margins last season are currently ninth in the Barclays Premier League table and go into Wednesday's home fixture against Hull just three points behind seventh-place West Ham.

Defender John Pantsil returns from suspension to replace the injured Chris Baird (leg) at right-back.

The UEFA Cup becomes the Europa League for next season and Hodgson says he would relish the chance to lead the west London club into continental competition.

He said: "I must say that a UEFA place has never been mentioned during the time that I have been at the club. What we want is a finish that is as high as possible and most importantly away from the relegation zone.

"But you don't want to crush hopes, expectations and dreams, although at the same time you can't encourage people to start believing there are no problems and everything will be hunky-dory from now on.

"It's a while since I was in the UEFA Cup - my last one was with Viking Stavanger - but I've had around 80 games in the various European competitions.

"The UEFA competitions are something that mean a lot to me personally so it would be very nice if I could take part again with Fulham.''

Hull began their first top-flight campaign with a 2-1 win over Fulham and went on to win at Arsenal and Spurs.

The Tigers' recent form has not been as impressive and they will arrive in London without having tasted victory in their last 11 league outings.

Hodgson said: "At the moment they are not going through such a successful spell but their fine form at the start of the season has given them a very good platform and we know we will have to be at our best if we are to get a result.''

Hull will be without ex-Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard, who suffered a serious knee injury just days after leaving Craven Cottage in January in a £5million deal.

The England squad man had been disappointed that Fulham had not been willing to grant him the contract extension he craved and was quick to sign on the dotted line for Hull once a four-and-a-half-year deal was offered.

But Hodgson insisted: "There is no ill feeling whatsoever. The only feeling is one of great pity that he is not going to be performing for them until next season, when we will wish him well.''

Hull manager Phil Brown has told Geovanni he must calm down or get used to the bench after revealing he opted not to fine the Brazilian for his angry outburst at the weekend.

The playmaker shook his head and stared aggressively at Brown after realising he was to be substituted during Sunday's 2-1 defeat to relegation rivals Blackburn, and appeared to continue with a furious rant after taking his seat on the bench.

Brown revealed his displeasure immediately after the game - even joking that he hoped Geovanni failed a post-match drugs test for which he had been singled out.

As it turned out, the doping control gave the former Barcelona player a chance to regain his cool and then say sorry for his behaviour.

Brown welcomed Geovanni's contrition but has told his creative lynchpin that with the Tigers now very much in a fight for top-flight survival, there is no room in his team for hotheads.

"He was very apologetic for his actions,'' Brown said. "But as far as I was concerned his actions were those of an angry man, as opposed to a composed man, and that's what I'm looking for.

"I'm looking for players who go across the white line and compose themselves, and can respect the decision (to substitute him) for the reasons it was taken.

"It was taken for the right reasons. If I printed the stats it would be there for everybody to see. But I'm not going to wash dirty clothes in public.''

Reports have suggested Geovanni was fined by Brown for his fit of pique, but the City manager denies that is the case and insists he will be considered for the crucial trip to Fulham.

Captain Ian Ashbee headlines a trio of major injury doubts ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage.

The midfielder played in the defeat to Blackburn despite concerns over a calf injury and Brown admits he is now "struggling'' to make the match.

Striker Craig Fagan (knee) and defender Michael Turner, who collided with Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson, are also struggling.

Midfielder Dean Marney, who was sent off against Rovers, and defender Andy Dawson are both suspended.

Actually my guide has it as 6:30 pm Eastern on Setanta. However if you do tune in at 6pm, you could catch the end of Wigan vs West Ham.
