Been holding my thoughts on Macca’s hiring until I heard more about his responsibilities so today after reading that one of his primary responsibilities will be to develop relationships with young players his hiring gets a a bit more exciting. He has the history to know what it takes to succeed domestically, overseas and on the international level. Hopefully, he thrives at conveying what is possible to potential future USMNT players.

Despite being wildly predictable and a cesspool of periodic corruption and racism, Serie A is available on ESPN+ so been enjoying catching Sampdoria matches whenever I can.

And who did I see last week in net for Samp's opponents, Brescia? Why our erstwhile backup Jesse Joronen. I totally forgot its been this but he left way back in the summer of 2017. He's played at AC Horsens, Copenhagen, and now Brescia.

Oh and Sampdoria won 5-1, which now accounts for 20% of their total goals to date. They are also now managed by Claudio Ranieri. These two facts are probably related.

Nice surprise today to hear Mark Schwarzer doing "color"on the Bayer Leverkusen/Dortmund match. Not shy at the microphone, our boy.

Did anybody happen to see Matt Smith's FIRST HALF hat trick against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this afternoon? Sick.

Good news #1: Citeh crashes out of the ECL 1-3 at the Etihad

Good news #2: The tie-breaking goal AND the final goal came from Lyon's bench in the form of Moussa Dembele [the striker]. I had no idea where he was playing these days, but nice to see the lad doing well.

Congrats to Charlie Blackmouth, faithful servant wherever he played. Certainly FulAmerica wouldn’t be the same without his contributions. A little disappointing the Mayor of Hannover Steve Cherundolo wasn’t elected, in my mind Dolo is the starting rb in all-time UMNT starting XI. Hope Solo not getting in is political and about controversy not playing accomplishments.

Bristol City will have a strong connection to the Cottage this year playing with two recent Fulham alumni and two loanees: Chris Martin, Tomas Kalas, Alfie Mawson, and Stephen Sessegnon

and .... then there was today

Brighton were holding Wolves to 1-1 just before half time, when Burn:
    a. passed the ball back to ... actually, nobody. corner conceded
    b. from the corner, Dan got on the score sheet with an own goal
    c. less than a minute later, he fouled a Wolves winger in the box ... penalty
So, in the space of maybe 4 minutes, B&HA went from 1-1 to 1-3

Brighton came out of the dressing room with fire in their eyes and fought their way back to 3-3, but when Burn got a clumsy yellow card, they subbed him off.

I watch Brighton as often as I can, and I can tell you that Burn is not only the tallest LB in the world, he's also a solid Premier League player ... but not today.

    Sigh.

Chelsea's most senior player ended his term with them after 9 years and was signed by Braga. No, it isn't Zouma or Kante or even Azpilicueta, it is Lucas Piazon. I always liked Piazon and it was unfortunate that he suffered that broken foot at the hands of Leeds just as things seemed to be taking off for him. I wish him luck at Braga.

HatterDon is pleased to report that the Hatters defeated Forest in the Championship 0-1. Why is this here? Because that goal was scored by one Ryan Tunnicliffe who is evidently having a fine career in the Championshop. I always liked him, but he never seemed to have that special spark.

    Anyhow, a win-win for me.

I can't believe I'm typing this, but Brighton's Dan Burn scored the winning goal against Man City today -- with his foot ... with his RIGHT foot. I continue to be glad that he's proved so many doubters wrong. He IS a Premier Leagut player.

A Dempsey sighting! From a podcast by Beasley, Gooch and Mabricio Wilson. Good pod in general but a little extra special today. You can watch it on You Tube if you’re so inclined.

    Me either especially this part:

“Bettinelli claimed it was a dream of his to move to Chelsea - a dream that looked like becoming a reality a few years ago before a move failed to materialise - and that he's relishing the opportunity to help the team.”

I guess everyone can dream their own dreams.
