The same bunch of ultra-Conservatives who successfully torpedoed McCain's 2000 bid, stage-managed Max Cleland's 2002 defeat for the Alabama senate seat, and swift-boated John Kerry in 2004, is back on McCain's back again. Seems he really wasn't that much of a hero in Vietnam. Seems his prison camp experience was more Riviera than Viet Cong. Seems he really was stabbing his fellow prisoners in the back when he refused special favors. I see. That must make sense to somebody.

Anyhow, this is proof [if any was needed] that McCain's candidacy is strong again, strong enough to worry those lined up against him. There are those in the party who just don't like the guy, and that's fine. There's times I'm not all that nuts about him either. I just wish that those folks wouldn't trash every high-profile Vietnam Veteran in sight, whether he had two purple hearts, lost three limbs, or served in a prison camp in a war that, no doubt, they successfully evaded.
