It wasn't just the penalty that did him in. He played like shit the entire tournament. Did Marica get into a fight with that idiot of a manager? I mean him and Mutu were un-stopabble and he didn't even play a minute.

    My Predictions:

    QUARTER-FINALS

    Portugal - Germany
    - Portugal wins by 2 goals. Portugal is healthy and rested and Germany is anemic and without their only spark, Podolski.

    Croatia - Turkey
    - Croatia wins. Turkey is just missing so many players. It should be a good match, with both teams leaving it all on the pitch, but I just think the Turks don't have enough left to give.

    Nethelands - Sweden/Russia
    - Netherlands wins by 2 goals. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, the Oranje is just playing with too much style and confidence right now and will have a rested team after sitting 9 starters.

    Spain - Italy
    - Spain wins. Without Pirlo, Italy won't have the creativity to outscore Spain and without Cannovaro, they won't be able to slow down Torres and Villa.

    SEMI-FINALS

    Portugal - Croatia
    - Portugal wins by 2 goals. Portugal just has too much class, too many weapons.

    Netherlands - Spain
    - Netherlands wins. This will be a very entertaining game, but the Spanish back four has looked more suspect than the Dutch one and, in Ruud, the Dutch have a center forward who can hold up the ball better than either Villa or Torres. Both teams have fast, skillful attackers, but Ruud will be the difference.

    FINAL

    Portugal - Netherlands
    - Portugal squeezes out a 4-3 win. This will be a game for the ages and is very tough to pick, but I have to give the slight edge to Portugal - their defensive players are better and then there's the Christiano Ronaldo factor.

Sweden looked so: slow, disinterested (especially Ibrahimovic), and old.

Russia looked: fast, energized, and more than half the team about 16 years old. These guys will be ones to watch.

Germany is currently showing the world why they were initially considered favorites.

I was just about to post "Holy Crap! Portugal 0 Germany 2" Instead, I'll post: "Holy Crap! Portugal 1 Germany 2"

I still think Portugal will prevail. Too many old legs defending against speedy youngsters.

Lahm is 24, Mertesacker is 23, Metzelder is 27, Friedrich is 29. Rolfes (who played the holding role today) is 26. Jansen (who came on late as a defensive sub) is 22. No old legs defending for Germany. Well, Lehmann.

They're starting to gel, I think they've found the lineup that works for them with Hitzlsperger and Schweinsteiger starting (and having awesome German names) and Podolski playing forward with Klose. They'll beat whoever wins the Turkey-Croatia QF but lose to whoever wins the Holland-Spain semi. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nani made a pretty sick play to set up Portugal's second goal. He and the fake Ronaldo could be a great pair of wings for United.

I just didn't think that Portugal could lose. I also don't think that The Netherlands can't lose. Bad news for them.

I am wrong so often it doesn't even cause a ripple with me, never mind shock or surprise.

I've got it on in the other room. I almost broke myself on the equalizer.

Wow! This is three straight tourneys that the Turks have impressed me. Lookout for them in South Africa.

    WHAT A TOURNEMENT THIS IS!

There aren't any fat ladies in Istanbul or any where around this team. Man, you can never count those Turks out. You've got to play the full 90 and sometimes 122 minutes isn't enough against them. You've got to love it. What can they do next?

I was pulling for Croatia b/c the Croatians and Bosnians that I knew through work played a large role in turning me onto soccer during the '02 World Cup. What a gut-wrenching way to lose. And how the hell do you make just 1 of 4 on penalties?
