Maryland attempting another come from ahead defeat against Pettyfog's favorite school. Will they do it?

And the answer is no! They went into the half looking tentative and ready for the slaughter. They came out like beasts! Bearburgers for everyone!

College hoops has been a passion for me as far back as I can remember and IMHO the talent level is down and not just by a little bit. The sad part for me is I never again expect to see the likes of Jordan, Worthy and Perkins face off against Ewing and Sleepy Floyd or Bird play against a Magic Johnson led team. Truly talented players that stay in college for three or four years are anomolies today.

and, to continue a conversation that we began last year some time, the overall skill level of college b-ball players has dwindled over the last 20 or 30 years. You want dunkers and three-point shooters, go NCAA. However, ...

You want fundamentals? You want mid-range jumpers? You want individual AND team defenders? You want people who'll run the floor on offense without the ball? You want discipline and work ethic? You want a player who's been schooled in the team concept every day since he was 6 or 7? Look to Europe and South America, cause we only coach poster candidates anymore.

Considering that my better half went to LSU, I'm very happy you were wrong WB. Made my Thursday evening far more pleasant.

Now for tonight, LETS GO BC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dayton beats Huggins State.. err.. WVa, I mean.
    68-60
Now, for those who might be otherwise confused, UD is my REAL favorite BBall school. If only cause I grew up watching em.

Kansas would be wise not to be looking past them.

I spent a good part of the day winding up my two brothers, one who lives in Plymouth, MN and the other who lives in Austin. I was trying to get them into a lather about Minnesota playing Texas. Unfortunately, neither of them is as tied to the compluter as I am, so by the time they had both seen the emails, the game was long over.

The tourney has started well*, don't cha think?

    * although Carolina did win

I'm tellin you, the Hilltops are sweet!!! That Gonzaga game tomorrow will be a barn burner. Kudos to the Bison as well. They lost, but gave Kansas all they could handle. And props to that Woodside guy who had 37....during the game the announcer called him Steve Nash and I gotta say there were some similarities. Come on Portland State!

Are you watching this tournament? While there is certainly a trend toward what you are saying, there have been plenty of American kids on display the past two days who play the "right way".

umm... but none of 'em go to Ohio State. And they aint going to learn it there, either.

Someone on CrewBS said it best: Thad Matta is the John Cooper of OSU Basketball.

I have not watched enough basketball these days to comment on the talent level being down, but I can say one thing. College BBall is far more enjoyable and better basketball than what I see in the NBA - better ball movement, team ball. Maybe that's because I'm used to watching the Cavs and their non-motion offense, I dont know. Although the Cavs offense has gotten better this year, now that "head coach" Mike Brown has nothing to do with it.

Anyway, watched Cleveland State upset Wake Forest. Yea Vikings! Can anyone tell me why CBS would televise three games, but then make those of us who would like to see the CSU boys hammer the final nail in the WF coffin" watch the OSU game? If we wanted to watch OSU we can turn to the other station or do some PIP thing. It is infuriating. That's how far socialism has spread. I'm not even allowed to decide what game I want to watch.

Obama had Siena and Wisconsin in a mix-ur-pick.

Not unusual, though, mo. The WF game was 'done'

    - - - - -- - - - - - -
Cleve State is interesting case... did you know Cleve State and Wright State are 'sisters'; built at same time and both envisioned to be B-Ball schools. And have some parity.
WSU bball started out well, but Univ Dayton put the kibosh on them by refusing to sched them once there was a chance of losing. so now WSU has a great 18,000 seat arena and put like 10,000 in it in a big game.

Sorry Mo' about Cleveland State getting in the way of my Arizona Wildcats advancing to the Sweet 16, but that beat down of Wake Forest by the Vikings made for a great year for them.

Best matchups in this round; Villanova-Duke; Nova looked great in wiping out UCLA, but they aren't playing at home. This should be a fantastic game, I'll take Nova by a bucket.

North Carolina-Gonzaga; The Zags have a very talented team, but Lawson looked to be okay in the last game. The Tar Heels to win in an up and down game.

Louisville-Arizona; okay it's because I'm an alum. The Cats have 3 great players, but sadly that won't be enough. Louisville will wear them down and win by double digits.

Memphis-Missouri; both teams like to press and get up and down. Should make for an entertaining game. I've got Memphis in my bracket (sorry Dawg, I didn't realize you had a pool going until it was too late)

Just wondering how many FUSAers picked the Big 12. Looks like none, although they have the best representation into the Elite 8.

Sorry 'bout the Wildcats, Joe. That hurt all the way down here.

Gracias Don, the only good thing when your team is getting slapped around is that they switch games early (mercifully, but with all the upheaval the program went through winning two games is a major success story)

This year has been missing all the super tight games that always accompany the tourney. Thankfully, Villanova-Pitt was absolutely fantastic, and Mizzou gave UConn a fight much of the way.

Final 4 matchups; North Carolina-Villanova; have to think UNC (who I despise, where is FFC24 when we need him??) is too versatile for Nova, but the kids from Philly are tough customers and it will be interesting to see if the demons from last year come back to haunt the Heels (fingers crossed they do, and we get Roy Williams' annual Dick Vermiel imitation at the press conference...whhhaaaa  )

Michigan State-UConn; Unless you have ties to UofMichigan or UConn it's hard not to be rooting for MSU in Detroit, with everything going on in the city and state. Clash of two of the giants in college hoops, I'll pick Sparty in the upset and hope they'll be cutting down the nets on Monday night.

Massive congratulations to the Spartans for spanking "What recruiting violations" UConn. Now go slap those smug sky-blue jerkwads.

I didnt watch the game. If I'd stumbled on it, I would have. But in reading the game recap on ESPN, I thought the telling stats were:
Can the Spartans continue their inspired run of form? Against NC, it really looks like an uphill battle.. but it can be done.

Well nobody picked the Big 10, and only three of us picked the ACC.

Sorry, but I am hoping for a North Carolina win.
